(CNN) — He may be running for the most powerful job in the world, but Sen. Barack Obama still has to flash his gym ID like the rest of us.
Wanting to get a quick treadmill session in before his first public event with Sen. Hillary Clinton Friday morning, the Illinois senator headed to the newly-opened Washing Sports Club in the Columbia Heights neighborhood.
But the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee did not get far when he and his entourage of Secret Service agents tried to walk past the front desk without stopping, according to the gym's general manager, Gonzalo Perez-Tamayo."

Obama got carded. I find this story a bit of amusing. Well I think the whole candidates should be carded if they are in areas like this even when on the campaign trail drinking a brew.
Barak obama keeps flip flopping on issues. He may say one thing but do another. How is it that this gets burried in the past. The problem is that Obama is going to be let off of this. It is scarry that we ill possibly have someone who would put us in danger of loosing everything so dear that we hold. How can we know freedom if we dont realize it is slowly being erroded away. People that he associates with speak dangerous words. Only reason he removes them because they are considered hurting the people he hopes who would elect him president. How can we ignore the warning signs. What can we do? There are complaints that people like Limbaugh and other conservatives have too much power or give too much air time to opponents of McCain. This is wrong. I think there is room for all. MOveon.org and NYT jepardise people's lives. NYT revealed information that jepardized lives of people. We look at people like Obama and look at the pacifism that happened after WWI. The parallels are there. Our military was wrecked in some years by those who cut it down.
That's funny, but I could relate. I know what Obama looks like, but I don't really watch TV unless I happen to be in the room while my husband is watching it. I'm not very familiar with a lot of celebrities, so I wouldn't know if Audrina Partridge, Taylor Swift, or George Clooney came into my workplace. I've only heard their names, but I'm not sure what they look like.

I'm glad he didn't get any special treatment. If the policy applies to everyone else, it should apply to politicians, as well.

That's a good point. As the campaign progresses, I'm sure we'll eventually see some earth shattering footage of Obama sneezing. Next, the tissue will go for millions on Ebay, and someone will write a book about it. T-shirts that read "Obooger" and equally ridiculous things will be everywhere. Of course, everyone will forget about it three days later, so no need to panic.

And the immediate follow up story will be that Obama did not have hand sanitizer in his pocket after sneezing! Obama is pro-germ! It's all a liberal conspiracy to sicken the republicans so they can't vote!

"Perez-Tamayo told CNN the club trains its employees to adopt a strict policy of asking every member for his or her gym ID upon entry, even if they happen to be seeking the Oval Office.
The employee manning the front desk at the time, Takehia Wheeler, immediately stopped Obama as he was breezing past.
"It's always a rush in the morning, everyone's trying to come in quickly," Perez-Tamayo said. "She asked him for his last name and he said 'Obama,' then she asked him for his first name."
"It was very funny, she then realized who he was and said, 'Oh I am so sorry!" Perez-Tamayo added.
For the record, Obama is a member at the Washington Sports Club gym network.
The Illinois senator did not appear frustrated by the inconvenience, Perez-Tamayo also said, but he probably realized he needs to get a gym card if he wants to avoid the mix up in the future.
"If he doesn't want to get stopped he needs a card," Perez-Tamayo said. "It's the same for everybody."
