How Many Shoes Do You Need?!

I have two feet. A pair of shoe is enough for me to last a year or two. Yet, someone (like my mother) has 1,000,000 pairs of shoes. There are people in the world who lack shoes. They do not complain when they have to walk bare feet wherever they go. How many shoes do you really need?

I understand you need different types of shoes for different occasions. You cannot wear sneakers if you are attending a wedding with a beautiful dress (or suit for guys) on you. Then about 5 pairs of shoes would be reasonable, right? Have you seen MTV cribs lately? Those celebrities have new shoes stocking in their closet. Some shoes have not even been worn yet.

What is up with those basketball sneakers? If you do not play basketball, why would you walk around with it? You buy new shoes, walk around in them for a day or two, they get dirty and you throw them away. No, better yet, you hide them in your closet hoping no one would steal or wear them without your permission. When your friends come over, you get to show off how much money you have spent on these fancy sneakers. Then complain about not having enough money to pay for college.

Did you know sneakers can make teenagers commit crimes? To them, sneakers symbolizes social status. I saw a documentary once about how teenagers steal shoes from one and another by beating up kids who have cooler sneakers than they do. It is ridiculous. When an inexpensive basketball sneakers came out by Starbury, many kids look down on it since it is cheaper than other brands. I thought it was amazing. But kids do not view it like that. They are so into the price tag instead of thinking about parents' hearts. Some lower class parents try their best to get their children something good and nice as presents. Basketball shoes and other fancy sneakers are one of the top choices. It is sad that kids do not see the value behind their parents' actions.

You never see celebs wear the same thing again or same pair of shoes again, it's a waste but whatever, it's a part of their job. As far as I'm concerned with shoes, I have flip flops for the summer, sneakers for work, nice shoes for dressy occasions and maybe a few random pairs I had with costumes, after that it's excessive!

I use to want all the name brand clothes so I would fit in and be cool, in middle school. They told me no and I'm glad they did or else I would be one spoiled brat with a lot of debt, well most likely. Or at leas my parents would be the ones in debt but they are smart.

Thanks for the sites! Now I have something to do at work. ;)

I don't think wearing different shoes all the time is part of their job. I've seen a lot of celebs wearing the same shoes more than once.

I buy my shoes at WalMart. I wanted combat boots, so I found an $18 pair at WalMart instead of dropping $60+ for a pair from Hot Topic. Also, I wear my shoes out - until they literally fall apart, though I usually wear them a day or two after that, because I'm so reluctant to throw things out. These boots are a pair that I'll wear for years, because I worked for the money to pay for them, and I don't want to just throw that away. Yeah, that whole 3 hours of work I did to earn that $18 is going to inspire me to make them last as long as I can.

I don't have to work hard to make a lot of money, I'm a computer engineer and I don't consider that hard work because I love computers. Anyways I'll spend 60 on some shoes and make them last like 10 years. When I worked retail and what not I went to wal mart too. I don't see anything wrong with buying wal mart shoes!!!

Good for you! I'm a cashier at the moment, and though not many people realize it, it is hard work. Standing in one place for extended periods of time wreaks havoc on your back and feet, and I get home so sore I can barely move.

I know what you mean, I worked at Fry's and we never sit down and my feet hurt so bad! They should give cashiers stools really at least you can get off your feet!

Or at least those nice, soft mats to stand on. People at WalMart get them, and I accidentally walked over one once. They make standing WAY more comfortable.

I agree! It's so much easier to at least be moving around. Standing in one place is a killer!

The WalMart shoes I've bought in the past do not last me past two days. The seams are ripping or the insoles are worn out after wearing them a couple of times.

I'm not ridiculously hard on my shoes, either. I've just found that you get what you pay for :-/

I don't buy brand name for the brand name. I buy them because I know they're going to last. Steve Madden leather pumps last literally forever, while the PayLess or WalMart equivalent fall apart after a couple of uses.

That said, I don't go out spending $120 dollars on Steve Maddens. I buy Clearance with my Employee Discount or I don't buy at all.

I have a lot of shoes. I work at a shoe store; of course I have a lot of shoes. And I love them all. And I wear them all And I've only had to throw away three pairs of shoes since the seventh grade: my Vans that I grew out of and 2 pairs of Chuck Taylors that wore out because I wore them every day for two years (in 7th-8th grade, the were the only shoes I wore, ha.) My shoes all look new and are still comfortable because I haven't worn out the soles.

I don't need all the shoes I have... but do you need all the food you eat? Do you need all the movies you own, or the cable you pay for? Do you need a car when you can just use a bike or public transit?

We all use things in excess. It's the American way. You may do it in fast food, or cable, or any number of things. I do it in shoes.

We are equals.

They seriously only last two days? Mine usually last three to four months, and I beat the living crap out of them. Well, they would last longer if my sister (who borrows my shoes and clothes all the time without asking) wasn't a shoe destroyer. My perfectly fine boots came back from her borrowing them with the uppers peeling off the soles. I never cause my footwear to do that unless I've been wearing them every day for the past year.

In addition, the wal-mart and payless pumps are not comfortable at all! I love Steve Maddens! I could run a marathon in them, but I can barely make it down the stairs before my feet start hurting in the cheap shoes. High heels are the one thing that I just can't go too "cheap" on- "cheap" because I do the same thing you do and buy off clearance.

I love shoes. And I wear them ALL. They are something that can complete and outfit. I have purple shoes, pink shoes, black, brown, gold, silver, white, you name it! Now you may by something like comic books, and lots of them. To me, that isn't important but it is to you. Shoes are important to me but not you. You see how this works? Different people have different items they like and are willing to have more than the average person has of that item. I know there are many people in the world with out shoes, but there are many people also without computers.. hmm...

I have a problem with this statement:

"Did you know sneakers can make teenagers commit crimes?"

No, I didn't. I have never, ever seen a sneaker make a teenager commit a crime. I doubt anyone else really has, either. Teenagers make themselves commit crimes, not sneakers.
