How money controls our lives

It seems that money is truly the root of all evil. Why does money have to control our lives? It's a system that controls us and the way we live. We are the only species to live like this. Money controls how live, our health, education, status, safety, and at sometimes happiness. Why is it that the majority of the people, like the middle class whose lives are clearly greatly governed by this system are okay with it? The option of going to college is merely not because one wants too, but if they have the money too. Many young people put their lives on the line when the join the army, military, or navy just so they can have money to pursue an education. Is this a fair system? I think its not. All of the education from elementary school to high school is free, shouldn’t college be too? Our country should give us the optional to go to college for free without putting our lives up for sale. It is unfair that learning and improving our lives comes at such a high cost and can put one in years of debt. Is this money system only benefiting those who have millions or billions?
