Opposing Obama thoughts

I snagged this off of an anti-Obama bulletin, answering questions as they came.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.
HE WANTS TO MAKE THE MINIMUM WAGE A 'LIVING WAGE

What's wrong with that?
*
*
*.
HE VOTED WITH DEMOCRATIC PARTY 96% OF 251 VOTES

Probably because he IS a Democrat...

*
*
*

HE IS A BIG BELIEVER IN THE SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE

That's a LAW. C'mon now. -

*
*
*

HE OPPOSED TO ANY EFFORTS TO PRIVATIZE SOCIAL SECURITY AND INSTEAD SUPPORTS INCREASING THE AMOUNT OF TAX PAID.

Privatization will kill most lower middle/poor families, and hurt your middle classes. Only the upper class benefits.

*
*
*

HE ADMITTED MARIJUANA AND COCAINE USE IN HIGHSCHOOL AND IN COLLEGE

Oh, no, he did something stupid when he was a kid. Bush did cocaine too, had more than one drunk on duty during his tenure as an Air Force Reservist. At least he's admitting his faults. it's not like he's doing it now.

*
*
*

HIS RELIGIOUS CONVICTIONS ARE VERY MURKY

...To anyone who hasn't been paying attention. He's a devout Christian, church on Sundays ect ect. He caught a bad combination of going to a school in the middle east and having a middle eastern sounding name. Plus, what does his religious convictions have to do with being a good leader? Bush is devout and has done a terrible job.

*

HE IS WILLING TO MEET WITH FIDEL CASTRO, HUGO CHAVEZ, KIM JUNG II AND MAHMOUD ADMADINEJAD

Our political stratagy thus far has been "Let's play the My-Dick-Is-Bigger-Than-Your-Dick game." The pissing contests have to stop, and methods other than sending in our Army whenever something we don't like happens have to start. So far what we've been trying hasnt been working. Sometimes talking can be better than war.

*
*
*
HE SAID THAT ONE OF HIS FIRST GOALS AFTER BEING ELECTED WOULD BE TO HAVE A CONFERENCE WITH ALL MUSLIM NATIONS

See above. Something has to change, and maybe the view of America being an asshole could change...

*
*
*
HE OPPOSED THE PATRIOT ACT
.

GOOD. Just because it has the word Patriot in it doesn't mean it's a good thing. The Patriot act lets the government tap any phone, read any e-mail, and monitor any conversation through cell phone text message/msn/aol ect. It is THE MOST Unconstitutional act to have ever been put into law, other than the suspension of Habieus Corpus.

HE VOTED YES ON COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM

The system we currently have obiviously isn't working. It needs a lot of work.
it may not be totally appealing but it seems in the long run... it could work

HE WANTS TO RAISE THE CAPITAL GAINS TAX
.

We should raise that. Rich people need to pay more taxes. It's been comming and comming : the fall of the middle class. And thats whats going to happen if we go on the way we're going.

HE HAS REPEATEDLY SAID THE SURGE IN IRAQ HAS NOT SUCCEEDED

IT HASN'T. It's not a war that can be won. All the war has done has led all types of people to slaughter, and made a few oil companies a lot more rich. Fantastic reasons.
total number of american deaths since start = 4,004
total number of iraqi deaths since invasion = 1,193, 619

(numbers from ::: http://www.antiwar.com/casualties )

HE VOTED YES ON PROVIDING HABEAS CORPUS FOR GUANTANAMO DETAINEES

In case you didn't know, Habeas Corpus is the right to a. know why your being arrested, and b. have access to legal proceedings, such as a trial. These are basic rights. If we didnt recieve our rights to habeas corpus here in the United States we would flip our lid. So why this double standard?

:-h Hi Redefine!

I just wanted to give you a friendly tip, since I almost misunderstood and thought you took this whole post from the Obama message board. :)

I would recommend bolding or italicizing the text that you got from the site to make it stand out from your own thoughts. Either that or you could indent them so they stand out.

If you need help with any of the HTML involved in that, let one of the moderators know. We'll be happy to help.

You don't HAVE to do this... I just thought it would make it a lot easier on your readers :D

Happy blogging!

Perhaps it was edited after your comment was posted, but it seems to me that the all caps in some of the lines was for that reason. =/

As for the original post, I agree with most of what's there, except for the first comment about minimum wage. I agree that minimum wage is not a livable wage. However, raising minimum wage to a "livable" wage is impossible for a number of reasons.

First of all, a "livable" wage varies from area to area, depending on standard and cost of living. I can live in a city and make twice as much as someone who lives in a rural area and we both be in the same position of living literally paycheck to paycheck.

Second, raising the minimum wage means people will have to get paid significantly more. However, the money has to come from somewhere. Many places staff and pay according to what the unit (store, branch, office, plant, etc) does. The more it can put out, the more it can be staffed and the better the pay. They are budgeted for what they have. By increasing minimum wage to a "livable wage," chances are, you're talking 2 or more dollars per hour. To keep within the budget, chances are quite a few people will be losing their jobs. Or, the company can raise their prices and everyone pays.
