Forgive me if I step on any toes...
I am an avid Nascar fan; I take time out of my Sunday each week to sit down and watch the race, though I may fall asleep during one or two during the season. Either way, I'm still right there cheering my drivers on every season! Well, today is the official start of the 2008 season out in Daytona and, just like always, I'm sitting here in my comfy chair watching the events leading up to the race! However I just saw something that severely troubled me (I know, I'm pathetic). What was it? It was Sheryl Crow singing during a mash-up of Nascar clips!
After a little Google searching I found an article written back in 2002 indicating that Sheryl Crow is, in her own words, "sort of a groupie" of Dale Earnhardt Jr.(A Nascar Driver, very popular). However I also found another article, perhaps more famous than the latter (and written in 2007), where Sheryl shares some of her ideas for us to 'join the movement' to turn around the effects of Global Warming. Some of which include enforcing a limit on toilet paper (1 sheet per person per sitting) and her own personal clothing line which incorporates a "dining sleeve" to combat the wasteful devils called paper napkins. In the same article she also mentions how she was giddy when former Vice President Al Gore, the father of global warming, came and visited her on her Global Warming tour bus. This is what troubled me: if she's such an Al Gore supporter--wanting to end Global Warming and change the conservative publics opinion and what not--why is she supporting Nascar?! Of all sports she chooses to promote 43 cars racing around a track at high speeds! I find that rather hypocritical because aren't we all supposed to be switching to electric hybrid cars? Yes, Nascar race cars do run a bit cleaner than our own vehicles due to the higher octane fuel, but there is still some pollution happening.
Now I may be blatantly wrong, but thats why I blogged this -- so you can tell me your opinion! I'm also a country fan and enjoy several of Sheryl Crow's older songs...so I have no reason to hate her, but I don't promote hypocrisy, and I'm not yet convinced of Al Gore's brand of Global Warming. So...what do you think?

I totally remember her saying that...and watching An Inconvenient Truth with Al Gore...
nice point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you really seen any of the political figures hyping global warming on a bike? Most of them have private or chartered jets and motorcades of huge SUVs.
They just want other people to give up driving cars, and heating their homes. Or make them pay 'carbon tax' that they promise to spend helping the planet.
A Fact is Always Better Than an Ideal.
Well, I guess we know how dedicated Sheryl Crow is to the Go Green cause. But you know at least she is doing something. A small contribution is better than no contribution at all, Right? I have to say that I like Al Gore. I am definitely not naive enough to believe that he practices everything he preaches (I’m sure he didn’t pedal his way to Oslo, Norway) , but I still respect the message he sent out in An Inconvenient Truth.
I loved his message in it however its not just about him...which is the message trying to be conveyed

I have nothing against NASCAR but it does not interest me much. Aren't the cars VERY high horsepower? High horsepower can only be achieved by burning LOTS of fuel. It does not matter if the fuel burns slightly cleaner if your are only getting 3 MPG.
Every time I see Sheryl Crow I think about that statement and I want to throw up. She is just nasty! I definately would not let her touch me. A person might catch something like cholera.
I think she made a very significant contribution to the global warming fight. The most important thing a celebrity has is their public image and in my opinion she sacrificed hers. That is giving a lot.
