Hello everyone, I'm Hsin. I was introduced to this website by a friend and thus decided to join ^^ w00t.
Here's a little about me:
I'm from Taiwan. I moved to the United States in 1995 (13 years ago, I was 8 years old). After surviving k-12 education, I now attend Utah State University. Although I am undeclared, I've some paths in consideration. Fields such as film production, teaching ESL (English as a Second Language, teaching English to non-English speakers), and translating.
I speak both Mandarine Chinese as well as Hokkien (Taiwanese), although my vocabulary is limited to every-day-life uses and I also lack the skill of writing. However, I can type most of what I can speak.
I like many things. Oftentimes, those things contradict each other, but they often have an odd harmony about them.
Things I like:
Video games - I like just about everything except sports games, with NBA JAM as an exception.
Sci-Fi - From Mystical folklores of Medieval times to the futuristic kick-ass technology of the Fuuuuuuuuture (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRqIgCjp0pE&feature=related). On a side note, I fell asleep on the first movie of Harry Potter, watched 1 and 1/2 movies of the 3 Lord of the Rings, and have not seen any of the Matrix or Star Wars. Wait, I lied. I had to watched one of the Star Wars in Spanish during class. I think I slept, though.
Nature - I love Nature (note the capital N), though I hardly ever get out. I love Nature nonetheless. Nature is forever inspiring and beside from Man and his creativity and imagination, may be the only thing that can bring exasperation and tears to mine eyes simply by realizing its existance... A blog on this later ^^
Family and Friends - No one is closer than those of which you can sacrafice much of yourself for, for they are as much you as you are you. I love my family, those immediate and distant. Without family, as variety is added to life, I could never taste the spices. Thanks, Nature, for providing such a natural social unit. I also love my friends. Friends are simply family without blood ties, and blood bonds are not important in a family (refer to adopted children), therefore they are also as family to me.
Man - ... let me clarify. I love Humans; Humanity. The thoughts that go through the minds of Man are sometimes fearful, sometimes inspiring, but most often, both. From the darkest desires of lust, to the most noble innocent modesty, Hu, the Human element is truly amazing.
Women - Yes, this time I am referring to a sex. Let me first say that this is not a perverted declaration. There are more to love in a woman than her breasts and vagina. I love their hair, especially when they are long. I love her smile, the little well of tears in her eyes when she watches Korean soap opera, how beautiful she is, even if she sleeps funny, and how she has the ability to be stronger than me to hold me up when I am down. Blog on this later :p
History - The history of Man. Man has come from breaking rocks to chance for sharp stones to learning how to harvest from the seas, to observing and replicating growth of plant-life in nature, and to inventing mathematics, discuss physics and astrology, and ride vehicles beyond the reaches of the birds. What's not to love about history? There will also be a blog about this later xD
Anime - I like anime. I'll probably blog on this later as well, so I'll leave it at that. On a side note, I'd like to cosplay. I tried, but would say it wasn't very successful, so I will try again.
Music - What's more to say?
There is much more to what I love, but of course, if it didn't kill me first to write and describe them all, it would probably fill some sort of text limit set by the website... or the internet, so I'll leave those at that.
Now, here are some quick notes of my, uh, values? I say... (it's 2:30, gonna fire some topics off the top of my head)
YES to gay marriage. I believe marriage should be more than a social status, but a ceremony representing mutual love and trust between two people, regardless of their sex.
OKAY to drugs. Many of my friends have sampled drugs, many of which remain daily use. I personally have never tried anything, but I try to keep an opened mind.
NO to the false illusions the act of recycling gives. Recycling is a good thing, but better yet, REUSE!
NO to those who abuse the term "racist". Analyze yourself before you go consider everyone else a racist. Perhaps you simply are not a likeable person or the person who treated you unfairly was simply have a bad day. Get over it.
NO to racism. I don't think much else is needed to be said about this one.
YES to raised payments for teachers, for without those who are willing to teach, we may end up like... well, Bush...
NO to the Iraqi INVASION.
NO to the banning of alcohol sales in many communities on Sundays. It is ridiculous to ban the sales of a commodity on a particular day. That's gotta be like... prejudice or something. I personally do not like drinking and rarely drink, but this is my stand on this one. If the community is worried about the public safety because there tends to be more people out on Sundays on their way to church, they may as well ban alcohol sales on Fridays and Saturdays, in a community larger than if the only means of procreation renders inbreeding as a necessity, and any public gathering.
