Your Hummer just ate my Honda Civic.

Let's talk cars. Or should I say, "motor vehicles"? Because I'm starting to see fewer and fewer actual cars on the road. Oversized SUV's are ruling the roads, making them unsafe for other drivers and guzzling gas beyond belief.

My favorite example of a gas-guzzler is, of course, the Hummer. It's huge, ugly, and really quite unnecessary as a vehicle. Even the lightweight H2 weighs 8,400 lbs! That's more than TWICE the weight of the average car/SUV. A Hummer is less fuel efficient than a Model T, according to www.codepink4peace.org, getting 9 mpg city. Any car that uses that much gas should not be owned by anyone, if only because of its effect on the environment. Think about the amount of CO2 emissions it pumps into the atmosphere! And gas-guzzlers certainly aren't helping resolve this country's dependency on foreign oil.

SUV's like the Hummer are also more dangerous in crashes. They are more likely to flip over due to a high center of gravity and very large vehicles are hard to maneuver because of their sheer size. A Hummer is about as agile as a rhinoceros on stilts. (It looks kind of like one, too.) The stiffened frames of SUV's can cut into the body of an ordinary car during a crash and cause injury to passengers. Is driving an SUV or Hummer really worth the added risk?

Finally, let's compare costs. An H2 is $50,000 and an H1 is $100,000. A hybrid costs significantly less than that! So consider doing Mother Earth a favor and sticking to a normal or fuel-efficient car.

I see a Hummer, I get annoyed. They are about the dumbest car I've ever seen. Not only are they ugly, inefficient, and dangerous to others, they are also a blatant status symbol for some people that says "Look at me, I'm better than you cuz I have this butt-ugly car".

Rhinoceros on stilts? Hmmm. Good description.

HOW DARE YOU SPEAK BAD OF A HUMMER. THAT CAR IS TRIPLE OG, OG TRILE TRIPLE. AND I LOVE IT

SOLAWOP

I am a huge advocate of more fuel efficient cars. However, it does not bother me as much the fact that people own hummers than the fact that they own large vehicles when they don't need it. A lot of people drive large trucks such as the F150 and fail to use the tailgate, because they feel that it is a symbol of masculinity. I do not mean to be stereotyping, because my dad in fact has a pick-up truck, but he drives it only about once a week when he absolutely needs it for his work, because otherwise the gas to fuel it is just way to expensive for a commute to work. The other point that bothers me is when adults drive SUVs and do not need to be. If you are single and do not have children and never drive with more than a passenger, YOU DON'T NEED AN SUV! I feel that people should have a car that fills their needs and nothing more. If such was to occur, the environment would be in a better condition and there would not be as many ridiculously large vehicles on the road!

horrible for everyone but the dealers who get the sale commissions. They guzzle gas, are a danger to every compact car on the road, and are about as attractive as a brick with stick and cumcumber slice wheels.

How about not getting a car?

Taking the bus really isn't that bad. It's also SO much cheaper.

that people who are rich enough to afford to buy and "feed" a Hummer consider themselves to be too good for public transportation. Especially the bus, which is used mroe by the working class.
