I'm More Like You and Less Like Me

My mom often points out how much I look like my best friend. We both have shoulder length hair, layered of course, and with bangs that hang over our eyes. Our only physical difference is that she is much taller than I am. I'm no longer surprised when people think we're sisters, because after hanging out with her for the past thirteen years of my life, I'd expect to look something like her.
I attended a small, private K-12 school, where everyone had known eachother practically from birth or at least kindergarten on. We all wore our hair pretty much the same, shopped at the same stores, wore the same clothes...you get the idea. Whenever someone new came to our school, they automatically stood out. We all would have our hair the same and this new person wouldn't. It made them unique and interesting.
I have noticed that although everyone wants to fit in, sometimes it's better to stand out. We all want to look like our favorite celebrity or someone else we admire, but isn't it better to look like yourself instead of pretending to be someone else? Or how about when you try fitting into a certain clique? You think you have to start dressing like them so you'll be accepted.
Could you imagine a world where everyone looked the same, had the same interests, liked the same baseball team, and spoke the exact same way? What fun would that be? It wouldn't be. I think it's boring when everyone talks, looks, and acts the same as everyone else. It's better to be different, because it makes you more interesting. You don't need to look like everyone else to get along with a group. Just be yourself.

Comformity is bad! So true!

This reminds me of the show where people get plastic surgery to look like their faorite celebrity. I personally think thats stupid. And i agree with you in that we shoudl all be our own person.
