More on Proud to Be an American

Now I really wish I wouldn't have taken out a part of the blog I originally intended to include. Here's what it said: "When I was out of the country recently, something happened that I did not expect-- I missed America deeply. The song 'Proud to Be an American' came to mind, and I suddenly couldn't wait to come home and kiss the ground. " I've been outside of America several times, and I've missed it every time. I've talked to the people that live in other countries and, better yet, that are happy to live there. I have a friend in London who chose to live there above the US. I simply disagree with his reasons. That's all. Some of you assumed I haven't heard the other side, but I have.

In response to Canada and some European countries being fine as well, I did not say they aren’t. I specifically stated, “Sure, there are other free and civilized countries too, but I’m still glad I’m an American,” and that’s why I did.

Also, I agree with jobsimlaw that we are fascinated with Hollywood to the point of insanity. That isn't enough to change my opinion on my country, but I agree with you on that.

I also COMPLETELY agree with him that the Founding Fathers would be turning in their graves to know what America has become in comparison to how it was originally, but considering I'm a Conservative, I figured that would be pretty obvious. That, however, does not render me incapable of seeing that glass half, or better yet, most of the way, full.

Also, I agree with his definition of being proud to be an American (that it is simply to believe in our Founding Fathers' ideals). That's part of why I'm so proud. I completely embrace our Founding Fathers' ideals.

Wait, so you're proud of a country you agree has many problems with it, because you think its founders were cool?

She's proud of what the country SHOULD be and used to be. In many aspects, I'm ashamed of my country; that does not mean that I do not love my country, I simply wish for a change. The America of today is a far cry away from what America was in its prime.

I would answer your comment, but power_kord already said exactly what I was going to say, which isn't surprising since he's my friend in real life, and we agree on almost everything pertaining to our country. You can ask me more questions if you still don't understand what I meant, but I think power_kord took care of it.

That took you a really long time to reply to your previous blog.

I hear what you're saying but I don't understand it. I am sensing the fact that you aren't happy with our country at this moment, but you still want to let everybody how much you love it. Or am I mistaken? Sorry, just a little puzzled.

Ok, I love America. I love that we have the freedom of religion, freedom of press, and all the other freedoms that we have in America. I love the geography of where I live. The things about America that I do not like are the overall views on morality, government, and a few other things. With morality, I am disappointed at how far away we have come even since 100 years ago. It's commonplace to see a half-naked woman making out with a half-naked guy on regular TV now. I'm sure that if you were to flip through your channels, you'd probably find some show with that happening right now. Our internet is corrupted with pornography and other associates. I'll admit that I have fallen short in that realm (I am human after all). In government, I believe that it has taken way too much control over our lives. I go to a private Christian school and I don't see why my parents need to pay taxes to send other kids to a public school. Public schools may say that they don't have religion in them, but, believe it or not, Atheism is a religion: the BELIEF that their is no God. If you want my opnion on anything else, feel free to ask. Sorry I responded so late, I overlooked this one :(
