I adore how by living in America I get to witness a miracle every day. Particularly in my home town. It seems like there is always some kind of marathon or charity or new foundation parading through the streets. Just today I was volunteering to work a water stop at a race for the cure marathon downtown. I know to a lot of people something simple like a race doesn't seem like much a miracle, but if you really think about it, the true miracle is the fact that so many people have FINALLY begun to care about the rest of the world enough to set up these charities and marathons and fund raisers. There are so many horrible things happening in the world every day, especially now in this time of war, but all these little miracles, created from people who still manage to have hope in a world of unpredictability simply amazes me. I personally very rarely feel proud to call myself an American, what with a president who has the reputation of being stupider than a rock at times, and a society that claims to be racially accepting but in reality is still filled with persecution of others who are simply different than the majority. I HATE IT! But the one beautiful thing I have always loved about America is our constant dream of becoming better, and having people who care and hope even when everything is put against them. You can take away our freedom, you can take away our homes, you can kill innocent people, you can force children out of their only home, but you can NEVER take away hope. That is the miracle of America; we are always fighting for those with hope.

I agree with everything you said about charity and everything. It's a very important thing and it's a good sign that a society is healthy and wants to improve itself and others. I'm just a little different in that, while I do help sometimes, I spend most of my time trying to better america instead of the rest of the world. Yeah I am nationalistic and I am proud to be an american. I just believe that before we try to export freedoms and equality to the rest of the world, we need to perfect it here... or at least try to perfect it...
