I thought of several cute and catchy titles for this entry and then decided this isn't a cute and catchy type of issue. One of the reasons we cannot settle this is because of people using catchy little phrases instead of facing up to reality. "Pro-Life", "Pro-Choice", "Reproductive Freedom", "Baby Killers"- NONE OF THESE TRULY DESCRIBE ANYTHING ABOUT ABORTION...
This is a very serious topic because we are talking about real human lives. When a woman wants an abortion there is one question that must go through her mind: Is the fetus a human being or not? Does it have the same rights as we do? Or is it of lesser value because it's only living as a parasite inside the mother's womb?
The point of viability is one thing that the government must set because this is where everyone seems to be having the most controversy from the medical community to the religious community to the everyday person.
I found a poem which shows how the act abortion affected a woman's life. I thought I would share it because it shows another point of view that most of us don't think about. Once a woman decides on going through with an abortion it affects her too because it's not an easy decision. She bonds with the baby during pregnancy and therefore its harder on her than anyone else can imagine. here it is:
Condensed Reality
by anonymous
You can never put a finger on how to name her. She used to be so vibrant, innocent. Now her eyes are hollow, she ghastly as hell. But all these wouldn't sum up to all she kept inside; for delivering to death the life she despised.
Her mouth opened and closed, several times, but you wouldn't hear anything, just a vague mental picture of a tiny being moving away, trying to avoid the sharp end of the road that would pierce its heart and claim the brief life it has. And then comes next the vision of her as she stared blankly on the already lifeless baby that had clung inside her bosom three months ago.
The breeze of summer came early, and the subtle heat colored her cheeks, made her skin glow. A sun goddess to behold, she took all in the live in the world.
Alluring, gay, mysterious...
She can make you believe in what you surfacely see. She looks vibrant in her forced maturity. But her eyes are hollow, empty as hell. And all these sums up now, to that life she thought she despised. But would have made her complete as a woman.
In her empty eyes she sheds the tears of regret and longing. Some nights she dream of a happy, gigling baby reaching out its chubby arms to her, babbling out the words "momma' with a toothless smile and a shrilly call. She swelled with love for it. She wrapped it in her assuring embrace when it cried and wiped the tears off its chubby face that looks so much her own.
Her mouth stays closed except for a necessary grin. But you can hear her asking, "will God ever forgive me for what I've done? How i am going to look at my unborn child's hurt and questioning look when i see her come judgment time?" You can name her anything or even nothing.

That poem brought tears to the back of my eyes. I agree with you we often get so caught up in the rights of the mother and the baby that we forget the tought time that the woman is having while going through this. Everyone has a right to make their own decisions. Just make sure you can live with the choices you make.
I really hate this topic. It's a very difficult thing to talk about. It will always be a never-ending discussion of beliefs - those who believe life actually begins at conception and those who believe that a big part of being human relies heavily on the ability to think and feel and make choices. I think that people can argue their own personal opinion to death and not do much to change someone's stance on the matter. There may be a few you can persuade to change sides, but not many.
In my eyes, this topic is almost like arguing which religion is right. Whose "God" is truly the "God" we are supposed to be worshipping? Are only the members of this “one true” religion going to get into heaven, if there even is a heaven? Do people stand outside a Protestant church holding protest signs that they need to be Catholic or else suffer eternal damnation?
Seriously – what is the point of arguing it anymore? You are free to believe whatever you wish. I just don’t see the purpose of trying to force others to agree when your efforts are most likely moot.
This is a really good topic and I am happy that you presented it how you did. Aboration is a really hard decision and one that I wish nobody will have to make. It's hard to decide if it is really a HUMAN or not, everyone has their different views on it.
Liv Life Your Way
That's a sad (poem?).
However...the topic of abortion has been done so many times.... *sigh*. If only we could make it original again, huh?

I know this is a hard topic to talk about but it must be done. We can not ignore it because it's controversial. I am not trying to sway people into how I see the topic however I believe it is important to get everyones opinions. There are many people who are stubborn considering abortion(on both sides) but we have to meet somewhere in the middle to get some sort of order.
I am not saying to ignore it because it is controversial, but because it has too much to do about religious belief. Why do we have to meet in the middle? If someone was telling you that you had to change religions would you meet in the middle or would you stick to your beliefs?
I am not trying to solve a solution here at all. I think that would be impossible. However I wrote this blog because I wanted to voice my opinion and see how others felt as well. However, I still believe society needs to talk about it and find a solution no matter how many religions there are because the world can't live in this tension. I just don't think we should leave it where it's at, at this particular time because we have to progress as a society instead of staying stagnant.
I'm not tense and we aren't staying stagnant - abortion is legal. I am also not sure I really believe in "heaven" so I doubt I am going to die and run into a bunch of aborted feti. This is just my opinion and as for talking about it and reaching a decision? Keep abortion legal, there is a separation of church and state which will make it very difficult to all of a sudden make abortion illegal.
I guess I don't understand what there is to talk about and what decision needs to be made???
