Can Video Phones Help Us All Out?

Admit it. We all get tired of Cell phones in one way or another. Whether it’s the preson in a resturaunt that thinks his phone is actually a loudspeaker, the latest Fergie song going off during a movie, or the fact that I have no bars in certain rural areas, we’ve all regretted cell phones at least a little. This may pass quickly but you know what I mean :P. Now many phones come with a camera or video option. While this may currently be used as a way to catch your roomate dancing in the hall or showing your friends Fluffy’s latest trick, these handy little recording devices may become a tool for people standing up for a cause. Many civil rights issues such as police brutality or animal abuse have been caught on digital camera or cell phones and are actually used as evidence in court. Remember my previous blog about the student in California that was stun gunned by police in a computer lab – that was caught entirely on a fellow student’s cell phone. Sherman Austin, a founder of Cop Watch L.A., and founder of the subsequent website encourages everyone to “have a camera on them at all times so if anything happens it can be documented.” And I’m not just harping on cops either. So while we may curse the little electronic devils every now and then, it could be just the tool needed to help your fellow man…or dog.
