Dining Out for Life is today! This is a yearly event to raise money for HIV/AIDS organizations. Restaurants donate 15-35% of their proceeds to social service organizations in their area for one day only. It is happening in several cities, including Minneapolis, today, and in other cities in the weeks to come. All you have to do is EAT!
My partner and I have selected HotPlate for our meal, as they are Platinum level (35%) benefactors. They also make the most amazing homemade Oreo cookie! It's about a million calories, but today, I can say that at least 35% of those calories are guilt free and for a good cause!
The Minneapolis beneficiary is the Aliveness Project, which provides a wide range of advocacy and services to people with HIV/AIDS. They rely heavily on fundraisers like Dinging Out for Life, because they receive very little government funding, as a result of their refusal to subscribe to an abstinence-only message. Most HIV/AIDS organizations recognize the irresponsibility of teaching this to adult clients who have already been sexually active for years. They NEED the funding that comes from generous diners and donors!
So, please, right now, before you make your lunch or dinner plans, look up the date of the Dining Out for Life event nearest you and select a participating restaurant! It will be the most satisfying meal you eat all year!

Sadly, I'm broke, and I don't have time to leave campus between 8 and 3:30, so only dinner for me.

Oh darn. I read this too late.
It may be too late to eat out somewhere and have the place donate money, but it's never too late for you, yourself, to donate. :)
This is true. Plus, when you donate, you will know that 100% of what you give will go directly for the cause!
Well, I do fund raisers for HRC and AIDS through the GSWA I run. But the point is that I like doing things like that. Dining out/loads of calories would be nice.
Well, I do love eating and I am passionate about fighting HIV/AIDS...so this seems like a no-brainer for me. Now just gotta find a restaurant that is actually participating in this! Thanks for the heads up!
Wow, there are no restaurant in LA participating, thats unfortunate!

Ever since I found out they did this in Indianapolis, I've made a point to go out to eat for it. I totally forgot about it this year. Luckily, a friend had to cancel lunch the day before, so we ended up supporting the cause anyway.

I just read this and, although it is too late for me to do it on purpose, it seems as though I was accidently was in two diffrent places during two diffrent times during the right days to eat out the whole day... They better find a cure soon.
Good info post thanks
