What is Progress?

So what is progress? In terms of kicking off this scholarship contest, it got me wondering about who would be participating? What kinds of topics would be brought up? What exactly would I blog about? What's going to come out of this? The sponsor clearly has an idea that they want to evaluate each blogger and hopes that by granting them scholarship money for school that they'll PROGRESS in their educational aspirations.

But then I start to think of all the nuances of the word "progress"... What it means for different people and if education is at the base of it all... Progress for one person might mean taking a few more steps forward in physical therapy. Progress for another person might mean digging several more feet forward in their irrigation system. Progress for a student could be finding the courage to confront a bully, or putting a little more time into homework to do better from one marking period to the next. Progress for a parent might be practicing patience with their child.

In fact I am quite convinced that education is at the heart of progress. Without it, we wouldn't advance, and without advancement, we wouldn't be able to work towards a brighter, positive future.

I hope over the next few months everyone participating in this challenge progresses.

Take Care,
Liz
