Speaking of politics

*note: This one requires some information about me first. I am 18 and a senior in highschool.

I was talking with an old friend of mine the other day about random political issues, and he seemed very adamant on his stance on several of them. I asked him who he think he would vote for to accomplish those things and he said, "oh, i'm not voting."

This worried me. Now I usually follow the rule, "if you don't vote, you can't bitch," and just so you know i did vote in the primaries and look forward to voting in general elections. As i said, i was worried...cause this friend has always been one of the most opinionated people i know and if he doesn't vote...what about the rest of my friends...what about the rest of my generation.

This opened my eyes to the fact that this is a real problem in this country. I began trying to think of was to help remedy this...when it hit me.

You see, I'm involved with a group at my Highschool called the "Progressive Thinkers." This is a discussion group me and a few friends started two years ago, where we all just sit around and talk about current events. This group has grown to about 30 members since then and the discussions get better by the week. Here's the important part...most of these kids had no knowledge of politics, economics, etc. and now they are starting to form their own personal opinions about what needs to be done in the world, and all of them pledge to vote(when they are old enough).

Here's my idea...If we can spread this group to other schools across the nation, we could influence thousands of teens to be more informed and involved with the world they live in. I'm going to talk to my friends and the sponsor of my group and talk logistics...but there may be some serious action towards nationalizing Progressive Thinkers.

Now i ask you...would ya'll (i'm from texas...sorry) be willing to help spread to word of such an organization to other highschools and universities? Also if you have any suggestions please say them now. I'll post an update sometime in the next few days.

Many schools already have this in some form I think.
I know my school district has it at every high school during each lunch, so 3 at each school. They're pretty popular.
