Affirmative Action - For or Against?

Affirmative action affects the likelihood of being hired at a job or being accepted into college. It is those little boxes we have to check determining out ethnicity that employers and admissions officers take into account. Some colleges and jobs have to met a certain criteria or percentage of diversity legally. I think in theory this is an acceptable program to promote diversity yet does entail some unfair circumstances. An individual who happens to be a minority can be accepted into a university yet there is someone else with a higher GPA and test scores. How do you decide one is eligible to classify themself as this race or that race?? I read an article where a girl states that she was asian when she had about 1% of asian background in her that she determined through a blood test. Technically, I guess you could say she is a minority but how accurate is that?
Personally, I am not completely for affirmative action. I am mixed, though so, of course, I am going to state the minority status opposed to my other heritage. I think there is room for improvement to make equal opportunity. Education systems in innercities, which is primarily minorities and low income families, need to be improved. The playing field for education needs to be geared towards all and not some so it is equal. With that happening there would be no need for affirmative action. It would occur naturally.

So much for all the hard work you put into your future when some half-ass slacker gets your spot because he is a "She" or black or screwed up in some way.
In my world you get NOTHING you don't earn and I aint shedding no tears because of what you did or didn't do with your life before we met.
