If I had two mentees and only $15 to spend, I would begin the day by inviting them over for a heavy breakfast. Make sure they have enough energy for the rest of the day. Then, I would drive them to Washington D.C. to experience and explore the many tourist attractions. Washington D.C. is known for its monuments and museums, most of them with free admission (there are over 15 museums all within a 3-4 mile radius in D.C. with free admission). Since each museum presents a different type of exhibition, the mentees can pick and choose the ones they are more interested in. Some of the more notable museums include the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, National Air and Space Museum, the Museum of Natural History, and the National Gallery of Art. If the mentees enjoy animals, the world famous Smithsonian National Zoological Park, which also has free admission, is also located in Washington D.C. After a whole day of touring the various sites, I would take the mentees to Chinatown (known for its cheap food), also in D.C., to grab a light dinner before the drive back to Johns Hopkins. Back at Hopkins, I would invite the mentees to my apartment to enjoy a more filling dinner of pasta or pizza.
