I was actually a mentee under the Mentoring Assistance program during my freshman year in college. Part of my reason for wanting to become a peer mentor myself is due to the help I received from my own mentor. My mentor facilitated my transition from high school to college by guiding me both academically and socially. She was instrumental in introducing me to many people who I have since become friends with and many clubs which I have since been a part of. She taught me strategies for time management and graduate school preparation and helped me become very involved on campus. She would sit down with me and carefully go over what classes she thought I should take and which professors she thought I needed to associate myself with. She regularly called me to see how I was doing in school and how I was responding to the college life. She expressed continuous interest in my well-being, not only as a student but as an individual undergoing a big transition. Through her, I was able to fully understand some of the finer points of becoming a well-rounded college student and caring individual. I really benefited from her guidance and sincerely hope that I can help the incoming freshman to that extent.
