In this very PC world it seems to be out of vogue to have opinions. To voice a choice or an idea is considered rude or not polite. Progress isn't made when we go with the status quo. If Newton or Einstein had said "good enough, I don't want to offend the scientists before me", where would we be today? If Steve Jobs had just been happy with an electric typewriter, would we even have the ability to blog?
People seems scared to stand up for a side these days. Look at our political debates...waffling from one side or the other to go with the stronger poll numbers. What would have happened to Lincoln in those days? I don't care if I disagreed with some of the things said by a candidate. If they at least had an opinion, one they were strong on, I could get behind that. We have a checks and balances system. Our leaders are supposed to be loyal to popular opinion when it comes to their vote in congress, that doesn't mean they change their mind every time the public says jump. That is not the definition of a leader. We need someone with ideas for progress, willing to push the envelope when speaking to us and then listening to how we feel about it afterwards through our representatives.
We tend to allow the "acceptance of everyone" get in the way of the fact we have laws. It is unfair to criminals or illegals or girls or races. Life isn't fair and there are laws for a reason. If you break a law to get into this country you are not entitled to it's protection. The status that protects our citizens does not protect you because you chose to break laws to get here. If you end up in prison for breaking laws, you are not entitled to luxuries. Those luxuries were taken away.
I am tired of excuses. Reasons why it is bad to be "elitist". Communism does not work. It has fallen apart time after time. People need to be able to get ahead. People need to be challenged. They need to feel they can fight the system and win. They need to feel like their strivings have an end goal. All the acceptance of mediocrity is hurting us. Not only should we have convictions, there will be consequences for those. We are living in a society where you can excuse your way out of consequences for you actions. That is not responsible living. That is a spoiled child who has never learned to try. We try and fail. We make choices and mistakes. We need to start owning up to our mistakes without fear of a lifetime of persecution. There will be consequences of our actions, but we should not belittle people for being wrong. Let people really have their freedoms back. Let them speak out, let them be wrong, let them debate....this will cause progress, not silence for fear of offending!
