We Promised Not to Forget 9/11

Six years ago from this coming Tuesday, our nation was shocked by the television screens replaying an image that still brings chills to my bones. I hope that nothing we ever face as a nation will be as heartbreaking as that day was. We promised as a nation never to forget that day, but already politicians and activists stain that day as a day of political change and the surfacing of political lies and mistakes. September 11th was and will forever be a remembrance of how our nation puts aside each others differences and stands together under attacks to fight for the inalienable (God-given) rights which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. No man can take this from us; we were the very first modern country to demand these rights from an oppressive government. As long as we never forget that we CAN stand together and that no man, bomb, or airplane, can take what is ours, we will never forget 9/11.

Where were you that day?

Your last question reminds me of a song by Alan Jackson-Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning... It is a beautiful song that was written about 9/11.

Hm, I was having one of the worst days of my life, LOL.

I was on the phone with my sister, a student at NYU at the time the first plane hit. She was completely confused and telling me it was the weirdest accident she'd ever seen. Then the second plane hit and I lost contact with her. I freaked. My mother, in CT, was also freaking out.

I was also working at CBS at the times; so I went into work nearly 6 hours early to see if I could find a news feed about what was happening and to see if I could figure out a way to contact my sister. When I got there, the only other people there were a photog and the news director. We got started calling other employees and reporting the news. I had to go through all the pictures coming from the news feeds and decide which ones we were going to air of those that were released for public viewing.

I had to write the copy, and do some of the reporting until our reporters were able to make it in.

I was there from 6:30 am until our final news cast of the day ended at 11:30 that night. Then I got called in with some of the other floor directors to be told we were being let go due to budget cuts...

That was also my Executive Producer's birthday. So after hearing we were fired, we decided to go out to karaoke and relax. After a few drinks, some food, and a couple of karaoke songs, we were finally relaxing and having a good time; then the entire group of us (all of whom worked at CBS) got kicked out of the bar for acting "disrespectful and laughing during a time of such tragedy".

Bah - what a day.

oh wow, they kicked you out for that? i guess they'd rather people drown their sorrows instead of trying to move on....what happened to all that "we have to live our lives as normally as possible, otherwise the terrorists win!" deal? silly bar owners.

it was my freshman year of high school, obviously pretty early on (i think we'd only been in school for literally a week), fourth period--right before lunch--when someone came into our class and told us to turn on the TV because the twin towers had been attacked. we turned on CNN and saw the live footage of the smoke billowing from the buildings....it was kind of shocking, and everyone was pretty upset...eventually i think the principal got on the PA system and told us what had happened...they temporarily lifted the "no cell phones" ban so that people could call their families...

the other thing is, i went to school pretty close to DC, so when the pentagon got hit, it was even more of a situation, i guess. we got sent home early, and school the next day was cancelled. i don't think i'll ever forget it.
