This morning I woke up, tired, and upset about leaving gleeful dreamland to enter my last day of spring break. Then I realized HOLY COW it's Easter! On my desk was my Easter basket and I could see a chocolate bunny standing up inside waiting to be devoured. "MOMM," I yelled, like a little kid. She came in with a big smile on her face. Next thing you know, I was happily in my bed, munching on two bunny ears, gazing straight ahead with a peaceful state of mind, like I had just finished a session of yoga. "I love chocolate, I love the Easter bunny. Oh, the Easter bunny is the best...," I was thinking in my head.
It occurred to me, at this point, that tradition actually does have a part in my life. I know it's strange, but I never really realized this until this morning. I have always felt that more cultured people had "traditions". Cultures have their own unique traditional clothing, art, and ways of making a living. I assume my thinking is from growing up in so many diverse areas of the U.S. where everyone is different, and your ways just match those of a select few.
Tradition is sacred. It makes people happy, centered, and thankful. When I woke up and realized it was Easter because of my junk food filled basket, I had that feeling of being "centered". The family being together for the meal, the early morning candy, and dying of eggs is this ritual that happens every year that brings everything back together.
It's so vital to have times like Easter. Our lives are in no way predictable on a daily basis. It is very important, I feel, to have a little structure or ritual. Like a holiday, where something repeats itself and is enjoyable for everyone involved. Tradition is relaxing and refreshing the way it unites your life.
I hope everyone enjoys their Sunday and keeps up with their own important traditions.

Rituals are everywhere in this country. Ever watched baseball? Or any sport for that matter. We rely on traditions more than we realize but I think it is great!
I am at college away from my family for the first time on Easter in my whole life. My mom kept asking me what I was going to do on Easter and I kept on telling her that I was most likely going to do homework. I said "I don't like Easter that much anymore anyways because I loved getting the Easter basket but I won't get that anymore." Personally I am not religious so that basket was very important! Then last thursday I recieved a large box! Low and behold there was in Easter basket my mom sent me with all these wonderful chocolates and a Pez bunny! I was delighted. I am almost 19 but that just made my day! I love tradition and what it stands for to me.
Well said.
It's been the tradition of the Forest Service to sell off national timber and lands to the highest bidder and to find exceptions to public policy that protects 'em. Find out what you can do to reverse this policy in my recent post
