Tolerating Intolerance

Today I discovered that I had accidentally left one of my prized sketchbooks in my AP Chem. Class. To my horror, I discovered that a student took it upon himself to post obscene words over my drawings. What upsetted me the most is that since I draw experimentally, my drawings are condemned. I find the woman figure very aesthetic, and I do have drawings of nude women as well as lesbians in my notebook. Becuase of this, the vandal wrote that I was going to Hell, and that I am a freak , among other obcenities.

I can't stand people who are closed-minded. Sadly, many are brought up that way. But is me being intolerant of his acts hypocritical? In a way, perhaps. But perhaps his means of expressing his views weren't exactly respectable.

I see the figure of a woman beautiful, I think that preference says nothing of one's character. I am infuriated that people cannot see that because I respect a certain aspect of life, that that doesn't make me a 'freak' of any kind.

Well, today you learn to not leave your stuff behind. It could have been worse, they could have been stolen. It's easier to be ignorant than smart...Hope you can earase the words of your pics.

Unfortanately, the drawings are ruined. It's time to get another sketchbook. I feel bad for leaving the book behind. I am just glad my name wasn't on it, just my Pen name.

wow... thatis strong.

this student was doing his best to sensor you. i am a photographer, and well i published a picture, i was told to remove it because of copyright violations. censorship... just in a different form.

but i can say that many people are closed mined... there was a song going arround the school, called "dial and kotex" talking about how the goverment is beign out of place with the war. the bad that wrote this and could not reference the word kotex in the song... and made fun of the school at the end of the song, talking about how csnsorhip sucks...

the short version... use this to your advantage... take the work that has been "vandalized" and create a series out of it. and there by show how certen views are expressed through art...

I've found that in the face of intolerance people love to play hating intolerance game. While you definitely have the right to be upset with what happened, and even more so, have opinions that differ from his/hers, intolerance must be understood before being 'combatted.' There will always be intolerance in the world because everyone is brought up with their own values, all you can do is try to understand where people are coming from and not fear being yourself whatever the consequences.

Dont worry to much about it you cant control the actions of others but you can control how you react to those actions. You are smart enough it seems to come up with more art. But its good to tolerate the intolerant because most of the time they have such a messed up paradigm of the world they live in. and that usually includes that anyone who is not the exact replica or close to of their little world in thier brain. Doesnt deserve to live.

its hard for people to have no reaction when they're exposed to things they aren't used to but that doesn't excuse what that person did because as civilized people we have to be able to control our emotions
