The movie “End of the Spear” makes one think about how they are living their life. “End of the Spear” is an eye opener of how the world sometimes view other people, along with acknowledging the fact that out in the world today, there are still people who have never had the chance to hear the message of God. “End of the Spear” is based on a true story of missionaries. “End of the Spear” is a reminder of what we should our focus should be on, which is God.
In the beginning of the movie, the Wandani tribes are struggling with killing each other. This worldview is the understanding of who created them, and what they are here on the earth for each day. The Wandani struggle with how to handle situations. All they know to do is kill each other to settle things. Mincayni’s little sister, Nemo, is killed. Mincayni’s father tells him to take his sister, Dayume, with him once he dies, or their mother will kill Dayume also.
Stevie’s father Nate, and his fellow missionary friends struggle with a way to contact the Wandani people. They come up with a way to contact them by flying a plane above their tribe and sending down buckets of different supplies that they might find useful by using a rope.
Once, they had enough contact through the plane and sending down the supplies, the next step for the missionaries was to land the plane and talk with the Wandani people as best as they could. The only problem was the struggle to tell their wives, along with Nate telling his sister Rachel. Stevie asks Dayume, who is now living with them, how to say “Your sincere friend” in the native language of the Wandanies. Stevie tells his dad how to say “Your sincere friend” if they get into a tight position with the Wandanies. Nate says that they will not shoot if they get into a tight position. The reason is because the Wandani are not ready for heaven, but they are.
Nate, Jim, Roger, and Pete all go to meet the Wandani for the first time. For a first few of fours, they are able to interact with the Wandani. The Wandani even receive a few plane rides. Everything is going fine until one of the Wandanies lie about whom and what they are doing, along with the whereabouts about Dayume. Once this happens, the Wandani turn on the missionaries. The Wandani start spearing the missionaries. Nate is speared and says the worlds “Your sincere friend.” When Mincayni hears these worlds, he realizes that he has done wrong. Mincayni realizes his fall in life, another worldview.
The movie goes on to show the different struggles the Wandani tribe has after the missionaries have been killed. Dayume, the wives of the late missionaries, along with their children come to live with the Wandanies to witness to them. Eventually, the Wandanies show redemption, a worldview, of what they have done, and the need to turn to God for the greater good in life.
The movie then shows what is going on in 1994. At this time Rachel has died, and Stevie and his wife return to Ecuador, where the Wandani tribe is located for the funeral. Stevie is told about his Aunt Rachel wanting him to live with the Wandanies. Stevie struggles with this idea. Mincayni shows Stevie the plane and where it had landed after all these years. Mincayni shows Stevie the picture he found of him when he was a child along with a tin cup. Mincayni says that he saw Nate jump the “Great Boa.” Mincayni tells Stevie that he was the one who speared his father. Mincayni tells Stevie how his father was a special man.
The movie ends with showing Mincayni in the United States and what all he learned. Stevie says that for the first time, the Wandani for the first time has grandfathers. Mincayni, himself, is a grandfather. Stevie says that Mincayni is a grandfather to his children also.
The movie, and the real story, goes to show that your decisions affect those around you. Since Nate chose to take the risk of sharing God’s word with the Wandanies, if affect them not just that generation spiritually, but also the future generations also.
