no more rubber meeting the road...

Remember the good old days when gas was only $1.50 per gallon? I say good old days, but I suppose it wasn't too long ago.
Now the national average is $4.04 per gallon, or that was what it was yesterday. I don't know about anyone else, but this scares me. By the time I start college, it will likely be $5 per gallon. No college road trips for our generation...
But i mean, think about it, what all of this is doing to the world. Doesn't anyone see how dependent we are on certain countries? As well as how it's contributing to our national debt? We have the technology; we have the ability to free ourselves from the chains of dependency, but what are we doing about it? nothing. We are allowing corporate America to rule our lives and sitting by while the separation between the upper class and lower class spans wider and wider.
If I were elected president, I would immediately speak with all of the automotive manufacturers and tell them that they have two years to develop an affordable car that will not run on petroleum of any sort as well as a means for converting an engine in existing cars. Next, I would tell our oil companies to begin drilling our own resources so that we could completely be self-reliant in that sense. This would not have to last long, as we are one of the greatest consumers of oil in the market, and our business is valuable. Within the four years of my presidency, this plan will have lessened our dependency on other nations for oil and even reduced the need for it. Most Americans will have adapted to the new cars and maintenance required to keep them up, and we will have broken the chains that have held us down for all these years.
Let's hope that our candidates have a plan of their own for these matters, and that they actually intend to follow through, rather than dipping their hands in oil profits.
We can only hope.
