October 11th, 2007 was a National Coming Out Day. I cannot believe I missed it. But to me, everyday can be a coming out day. All you have to do is just shout out, "Hey, I'm gay! And I'm proud."
What does it really mean to come out anyway? To identify yourself as a homosexual is a big step. No, to identify yourself at all is a big step. It's like opening a door. If you're going to open it, it must be opened all the way. If you're going to close it, then shut the door. Eventually, you have to choose one way or another because when you come out...things do not only stop there.
What about those who are not ready yet? Is it bad to stay in the closet? So many people have been forcing and pulling others out of the closet. Do people really need to know my sexuality? Why do they care? Would being gay affect me as a person? These are some of the questions I've been thinking about. Why do they want to know so bad about my sexuality?
Some of my friends and one of my relative came out to me. It felt good because they are no longer hiding. Although I already knew (someone invented the Gay Radar), hearing those words from their mouth myself confirms their sexual identity. Even after they came out, they insisted that they will get married with someone from opposite sex for the sake of their parents. This can either be sign of nobility or cowardliness.
I wonder if half of these people who ask me know the meaning of being a homosexual or bisexual. If someone experienced homosexual activities, does that mean she or he is gay? If someone experienced heterosexual activities, does that mean that person is straight? People assume too much these days. Hello, just because they are married (a man and a woman relationship) that doesn't mean either one of them cannot be secretly "in the closet."
I want to love whoever I want to be in love with. That's all.
