The United States Senate will soon vote on a possible 30th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
This Proposed Amendment would recognize marriage as only between a man and a woman. On June 5, 2006 the Senate will vote on it.
This is the text for it http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?c109:2:./temp/~c109QSKK8X::
I am for the protection of the tradition nuclear family. Because the family is the central unit of our society. If the family breaks down, I believe the nation will follow in collapse.
I feel that I have the right to define good and evil, and to express my opinion of the matter. Is it shoving religion down another's throat to exercise my free speech? I think not. I feel that the family needs to be protected, despite hollywood and politicians. A family is a father, a mother, and their children.
What are your thoughts on the matter?

I happen to think marriage itself is an obselete tradition. As for what makes up a family, I don't agree that it must be a father, a mother, and their children. A family, by my own definition, is any group of people who share a home and their lives along with all the responsibilities that go along with that arrangement.
Whether or not me or anyonelese believes homosexuality is right or wrong has no bearing. The issue is that everyone should be able to practice their free will, no one has any right to say who they can and can not marry.
Besides its not like it harms you anyway.
Well I am not against same sex gender. But sometimes the government must step in= " no one has any right to say who they can and can not marry." Well, some people want to marry 10, 12 year olds, should the gov. not step in? Don't we base the age of marriage on our morals?
thats not fair. so gay couples stay together longer then non gay couples. they shoudl have right too. they are americna as well god created as all teh same and we shoudl all be given the same rights
That is partially correct. God created us all with the same purpose and design and a monogamous heterosexual marriage is part of that. Children's psyches and the health of families is based on that design. If the basic foundation of the family is destroyed, marriage, and the security that goes with it which is vital if not needed for the proper development of children goes with it. That security becomes "an obsolete tradition."
Adoption providers screen potential parents for many things to judge the parents' ability to give the child a good home. I will lament the day when it is illegal for the deviant behavior of the parents ceases to be one of those criteria.
I don't see how allowing people to marry someone they love will break down a "traditional" family unit. I say traditional because that is the only family unit you described. Additionally, I don't see how keeping two people that love each other apart will protect that family. Are gay people getting married and then going around killing off traditional families? No.
Besides, if two people live together for long enough (the length of time depends on the state) they become eligible for certain rights just as though they were legally married. If we can let that happen, why not gay marriages? No, I don't like going to a bar and watching two guys or two girls going at it, but then I don't like going to a bar and watching a heterosexual couple going at it either. But I don't feel that they are in any way devaluing my family or breaking it apart.
