Alternative Fuel Options: E85 Ethanol

The United States of America is 100% dependent on Saudi Arabian oil.  It seems as though there should be other places to look for an alternative oil source, but the Saudi's effectively control 71% of the world's oil.  That number jumps to over 80% when one considers the other large sources of oil are inaccesible as well (India - keeps it for themselves - and AK - darn caribou population prevents us from drilling).  When faced with such a crisis, one begins to reach for alternative fuel sources: wind, nuclear, or hydrogen.  Wind is expensive, nuclear resulted in glowing animals, and hydrogen is not quite ripe.  Another alternative emerges as the best alternative fuel : E85 ethanol.  This would require the US to come up with 15% of the country's oil, which can be supplied by TX alone.  The price for fuel drops from $4.00/gal to $1.70/gal, as a barrel of ethanol only costs $10.  Not only do we make our citizens happy people, but we also make the US a completely independent country.  It is about time Bush stopped bothering the EPA to drill in ANWR, and comes to realize that ethanol is the best alternative.  After all, the job of the American farmer has become virtually inexistant: it's about time we gave them their time to shine.

If I remember right, E85 Ethonal comes from corn. Such a thing could probably solve wars (like the ones currently happening.) And like you said, help farmers, which then helps the economy. But people could also drive solar powered vehicles and stop poluting the earth...don't know if I really see it happening..

How's this for some shits and giggles

16 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 were Saudi, NOT Afghani, Iraqi, or Irani....And yet we're "friends" with Saudi Arabia.

gotta LOVE the government.

I think it has more to do with the bussiness of gas than anything. yeah it would help out those who are farmers. But think of the people working to transport gas, sell gas, and create vehicals for it. I dont think they are willing to go down without a fight. The only thing to do is either work it over slowly which might take years. Or some Car bussinesses and investors take a risk. And put alot of funding into building outlets to Distribute the fuel. And make a mass prodoution of vehicals. blow away the concept of supply and demand and just hope the demand is high enough to make up for the mass production of the supply. Because to convince people to buy these cars they would have to be at a more than reasonable price. Put the gasoline industry compleatly out of business. And if this fuel is so cheap How will they have enough to convince the employees that this is not a lost cause. So unless you convince U.S. investors to supply the means to make the change it will be drawn out slowly or put to yeild until its absolutly last resort. I think there are things we can do without the governments aid but we just dont have the man power to do it . so we rely on the government to do it for us. Believe it or not the government works off of our funding and thier to afraid to piss the wrong people off. It could take years for somthing of this potency to take place by government's standards. Businesses run off of the consumers needs and wants. And who are we.... Thats right the consumer. Even business owners are the consumers of gasoline so they could if they thought it were appropriate provide for the funding of such business ventures and reasearch and ultimately construction. So its all about the community as a whole and our state of proactivity and productivity. I have lost faith in our government. and as far as people its all about greed

it sounds to me that the U.S. would benefit from this E85 ethanol stuff. now i really know nothing about this kind of stuff, but i can tell you from a consumers view $1.70 looks alot more attractive to me than $4.00 a gallon. i'm sure i need to do more research on this subject, but for now i think we should do the E85 thing!
long live the power of the corn!!
