Multiple Children = Bad Credit Score in China?

Another development in the ONE CHILD policy of the People's Republic of China has been enacted.  Previously urban Chinese residents would be fined if they had more than one child.  However, this has failed to deter upper income level couples from having multiple children.  The revisionon the policy now enables the abilty to put a blackmark on the credit scores of Chinese citizens who have multiple children.  It should be noted, however that the Chinese governmet allowed couples in low population-density rural areas to have a second child if the first born is female.

I think this is an interesting and controversial move by China as many people will agree that this will substansially help slow down the process of overpopulation, while many others will believe that this is a supressive and unjust move by a tyrannical government, abusing power by violating citizen rights (even though the motive may very well be good natured).  Personally I am not leaning either way on this issue as of yet  As i can see both sides of the arguement and there is nothing really swaying me to either side.

I think it's nuts. China needs to invest is something called Birth control... like I know it could probably be considered taboo in parts of the world, but seriously if your country is in THAT bad of a state, come on.

That is ridiculous. I was appalled to hear that couples can have a second child if their first child is a female. That implies that females are worthless. It's like "if at first you don't succeed then try again" I personally think theat making people have only one child is something that the government should not stick their noses in.

It is offensive to females. It's pretty much a question of how will the family name get passed on. As in China the family automatically takes the man's name

that is so incredibly sad... i dont usually believe in population control but in this case... i think its necissary. those girls need to feel loved and they shouldnt ever get the feeilng that they should feel sorry that they were born female

Your post caught my eye, and I think that I should add this in my current event in my school's newspaper :)

However, I do have an opinion I'd like to share. China, for thousands and thousands of years, has been a success. Many other nations have done the same thing they are doing. I'm talking recently, take Darfur for a perfect example. China is doing nothing out of the ordinary.

I do not think that any action should be taken by any government on China's doings. I believe that however horrible the conditions are, the situation will unfurl; and good will come out of it. China is a big country, they can take care of themselves. I'm not saying I agree with it, but I would like to see what the Chinese will do.

I do like how there is something to steer the population in the other direction, however... I don't like the restictions on Chinese people... Nor do I like how they the government claims to be "the PEOPLE's Republic of China". I do think the Chinese people should rise up, but there is no other nation that should interfere

---Mike Schilling---

I agree with that. It's not other nations to interfere. We learned that the hard way with Iraq, don't you think? It only causes more problems. it's the people o China, who need to stand up if they want to. The think is... they may not want to.

I'm going out on a limb here; for discussion's sake...It MAY be (not necessarily) that the people of China have not made an action against their government because of their culture. As with India, for centuries the Chinese have had a government like they do now. I can't remember what far eastern country it was that had a democracy for a while, but it crumbled. My point is, that they people there let the government be the way it is for a reason-probably religious. I believe that they will just find loopholes, because it is less violent (as they have with paying fines).

Its not really cultural as China's current government is less than 100 years old. They used to have a form of democratic monarchy... Pretty much the only trace of that government is the government of the Republic of China (aka Taiwan) is currently seeking indeendence from China.. Many Chinese citizens don't like their government. However, out of fear of what the government will do (as they have somewhat of a fascist communism) They do not trust their own efforts to rise up... Which is sad for the moment. But it is only a matter if time. There have been so many revoultions that brought down an old government. The American Revolution kicked Britain out of North America, Mexico kicked Spain out as well, France got rid of their own government. Texas fought a bloody battle and won it's independence from Mexico.

I believe that is what will happen. I don't believe any interference is needed in China. They should do just fine. Times are hard for them; but if they really want it, they can change.

I believe this applies to lots of countries *WINK WINK*
