Why does everyone obsess over prom? It is only one night and yet some people get soo stressed out because of it that it is not fun anymore. I know a few people in my class that spends over $300 on their dress and about $500 total. To me that is rediculous. Don't get me wrong I love prom and other dances, but that is a lot of money to spend on one night when the dance only lasts for 3 hours. Plus does anyone remember what you wear anyway (unless its something way out there)? I dont think so because they are to worried about what they are wearing and how they look! My senior prom is coming up in about two weeks and everyone is flippin out about it and I have no idea why! Yes it is my senior prom and I know that senior prom is suppose to be a big deal because the whole idea is it being your last, except over half of us well most likely end up at next years. Plus isn't suppose to be fun and exciting so why stress out about it! My plans are quite simple and I love them. Im going to a friends house that night and our boyfriends are making us diner and then we are going to throwing on our dresses and we are going. I dont see why everyone builds it up and makes it a huge thing because then wont it be a huge let down if one small thing goes wrong? I think prom has became over done and not many people enjoy it because once they are there and actually stop stressing out about it the dance is already over and the night is gone. I beileve prom should be like homecomeing with simple dresses that aren't over done and that homecoming should be just a dance where the girls wear skirts and the guys clean up and look nice like it used to be.

It's overrated.
I had the flu during my senior prom :( The hotel reservations for my boyfriend and I -- it was the first night I was allowed to stay out all night -- was such a good idea. I took a warm bath and then he laid with me until I fell asleep -- not the romantic night it was supposed to be. But even with that I wouldn't have changes it one bit :)
Everyone is freaking because this is the last big hurrah before everyone splits and goes their separate way. Enjoy it.
It's like royalty for naive teenagers who think that high school is the prime of their lives. Kind of sad, really.
I may be sadistic, but it's sorta funny to watch those people sink into mediocrity if they paraded around during high school with major superiority complexes.
It is pretty funny. They think they are everything in high school..their poor parents..heh.
It can be very overdone, I spent $25 on my Prom dress last year when I was a senior and I probably looked just as good and some of my friends who spent $200 on a dress!
Prom is like a tradition. Who would want to miss it, you know? For me, it doesn't matter if I go to prom or not. As long as my friends are going, I'm in.
I agree. I have a friend who spent $1000 dollars on prom! How ridiculous is that? and we go to a small school! I even overspent, which was not worth it, but for some people it is. If I had went with my bf instead of a date, my by is graduated and did not feel comfortable going, then it would have been worth it...but not for a guy Im not even attracted to.
I went to my junior and senior prom, I remember the dresses I wore to both, ( I learned if you go to stores a week after prom dress prices are slashed by more than half. Buying a dress for the nextyear can be good considering I paid $5.00 for a normally $280 dress) but I went to both proms with the same guy, the first year he was sick the next year I was sick. So prom isn't what its made out to be.
I have to say, prom is awesome. My junior prom, in all honesty, was horrible. Perhaps for silly reasons, perhaps not, but it was a rough night. And yet, it was worth every minute! I'm a bit of a cheapskate, I refuse to pay more than $50 for a prom dress, last year I got a brand new, gorgeous ball gown for $25. It was hot. So for senior year, I plan to keep it simple, and still treasure the memories of my last hurrah with my best friends before we part, maybe forever. And it's so much fun just to get dressed up and feel like a princess for a night, even if it is short. I guess you just have to take it with a grain of salt.
