The hall monitors in my school are absolutely ridiculous. I've only been snapped at them when I'm in the halls after the bell rings, but today at lunch another thing happened to a girl at our table.
Girl A was at lunch today using Girl B's phone to call her mom and ask if she could go to Girl B's house after school to try out prom hairstyles. This short spikey haired hall monitor came leaned over the glass railing and yelled at the girl to hand over the phone. Girl A stared blankly as the hall monitor told her she was also going to get a Saturday school. Girl A explains that she didn't know that using a phone at lunch was "against school rules" because it's not in a class and they don't complain if you use the office or pay phones during those times, even though they glare at you as if they do care. The witch of a lady tells Girl A that the rule was in the student handbook. The student handbook is ridiculous in size and NO ONE ever reads it anyway, the only time anyone looks in it is to see the requirements for diplomas and the schedules, everything else in there you would think would be common sense, like not bringing a gun to school.
So Girl B explains that it's her phone and that Girl A was calling her mom. The hall monitor yells at Girl B saying she could join Girl A and have a Saturday School. So, Girl B shuts up and Girl A is dragged to the office. Girl A is a smart girl and is one of the "goody-two-shoes" at school, so having her go in for a Saturday school for calling her mom, you know, being RESPONSIBLE, I feel is out of line.
About 10 minutes later Girl A comes back to the lunch table with her Saturday School form. They got mad at her because the day they wanted to have her go in for FOUR hours for Saturday School was a Tech Day for the Musical so she had to go the week after, the Monitors said they didn't care but a nicer person changed her date a week later for her. I felt the witch should have given Girl A a warning and not throw the Saturday School at her, especially if she didn't know the rules.
Hall monitors at my school aren't even teachers, they're monitors hired just to do that, monitor and take kids out of class for stupid reasons. What a waste of space and money. Do any of your schools of hall monitors or other staff that are just out of line with ridiculous policies?

Welcome to life. Once you get a real job, in some places all you are given is a handbook. You won't necessarily get a warning or saturday school for violating it, but in some cases you can be fired on the spot. She was given the information, so she should have known the rule.
