For me I have known the military life my whole life. From it I have learned and seen a different side of life, I guess you can say. I have a different outlook on life. I have learned to be appreciative of all those men and women that have fought and even fallen in combat for our freedom. Living on military base and have a loved one active in the military really shows a lot. You have a better understanding on the difficulties people on a daily basis struggle with as their loved ones are shipped out to fight.
Being surrounded by the men and women in uniform really makes me proud of being an American. Its' something a lot of us take for granted. You never really realize what those people do for this country. Mostly because a lot of it isn't shared with the media. You don't need to know that be active in the military to support them or even achknowledge those individuals.
It is not an easy life style. With the thought of loved ones getting sent out of state or out of the country is partially healed with the love and support of families on the base. At times they can be sent months at a time or even years.
The base is a community of its own. Uniting families of various races, cultures, and religions. Differences are set aside. Because everyone shares the same thing. Having the military their connection to others.
Being a military brat, as I am called, has made me respect our flag as well. When ever the pledge goes on or even the Star SPangled Banner plays. I think about those people who lost loved ones because they fought for your right to love as people in this crazy and chaotic world. Every one else should think about them to. They should never be forgotten.
I am so proud of the fact that my dad was in the Navy, because of that my dad is my hero. Along with all those other men and women that serve this country. I thank every one of them. With my dad being in the Navy it has given me so much! More then any other kid can ask for. I appreciate being surrounded with these people that represent their country.

I went to my state's boy state which is run by the American Legion, it was held at a military base. I enjoyed every minute I was there, it was great to just express my patriotism for a week, and live the military life. I myself can't see myself being in the armed forces, unless my country is in a dire situation of WWII proportions, but I do believe in serving it through the government. Your dad and the others who serve, and have served the country are heroes, and definitely deserve respect.

I have always appreciated and respected the men and women in the military, but especially now, when i see first hand whats going on. I see how much effort my husband puts into his job, and it just makes me so proud to see him in uniform. I have so much respect for everyone serving their country.
