Its the last week before spring break and the school is trying to prevent us highschoolers from drinking and driving. Im not against it, im all for it. I don't believe that if you drink and youre not in a good state of mind, that you should be operating a vehicle. Thats just stupid. However, the school wanted to do this program, the day before spring break, called "Every 15 minutes". They were, i believe, going to show the consequences of drinking and driving through pictures and a "skit" where a couple of the students "died" in a drinking and driving accident. They were going to play out the funeral, call the parents, and go all out, pretending like it was the real thing. It was supposed to get everyone to realize the dangers and what could happen.
I thought it sounded like a good idea for people who didnt seem to realize how much they were at risk, regardless of the amount they may have drank. However, I believed I shouldnt have to attend this assembly, because I knew not to drink and drive and I was not going to do it! My brother was in a drinking and driving accident. It wasnt bad. No one got hurt and thankfully, he hit a street light instead of another human being, yet I still get really upset when i hear of these accidents and such, because I see what cold have happened to my brother. Im very thankful that it didnt, but through this experience I believed I shouldn thave to go to an assembly such as the one my school was doing.
Today they called the program off. This past Friday, a girl from our school and one of her friends was hit by a drunk driver. They were both killed. Our school board determined that it hit too close to home now to have this program go on. Now we have all seen the consequences of peoples actions and it may cause us to be more careful.
I was against me going, at first, but now I think that mnaybe the program should go on. I know it will upset several people, because of the most recent and tragic event that has occured. This situation is much worse than my brother's, but there are still people out there that dont understand the full impact of it. Although this girl was from out school, there are still many people in school who didnt know her. They may feel sorry and think its awful this happend, but regardless they do not know the real feeling, and lets hope they never have to! Howewver, to come really close to te feeling, could be better than not.
I will completely understand the program being terminated, because it is a very tough situation and the people close to that girl should not have to relive it. whether the program happens or not... drinking and driving is just plain stupid! Its not adventurous or thrill seeking. It endangers your life and the many lives of others. If you are a teen who has had to much to drink, DO NOT drive. Call someone who is sober. If that means your parents and you migt get in trouble, do it! The consequences of you getting in trouble for drinking will be much lower than the consequences for you drinking, driving, and injusring/killing someone and effecting the lives of everyone in your life and in that person's life!!

if you are a teen, you shouldn't drive period.
if you are a teen, you shouldn't drive period.

how can you say if you are a teen you shouldn't drive? u were probably only 16 when you started driving. and to lump all teens together as reckless is idiotic on your part. I do agree that driving drunk is stupid. I always follow a zero tolerance rule, as too many people close to me have lost their lives in accidents of a similar nature
