Stupid Girls

Has anybody seen the music video for the new Pink song, "Stupid Girls?"

I just saw it last night while I was babysitting and it was so funny...and sadly, very true.  In the movie Pink makes fun of all of the stupid girls that are so prevalent in the media and in our society.  She played a girl similar to Paris Hilton, buying one of those tiny purse-type dogs.  Then she's driving in a convertible talking on her cell phone and hits a person.  There's part where she walks into a public restroom saying she ate too many calories and this girl next to her is gaggin herself with a toothbrush, then hands it to Pink, who proceeds to make herself throw up too.  Then shes working out and the girl next to her is in the tiniest sports bra so she takes off her shirt so she's only in a sports bra.  And she imitates Jessica Simpson's "These Boots Were Made For Walkin" video of her sliding all over a soapy car.  And in part she dances all sexy next to 50 Cent.

It's so funny because so many girls in Hollywood and real life are like that today.  So many girls have eating disorders...a lot which are brought about from the media.  The media wants every singer to have blonde hair, tiny body, etc.  Magazines use so much airbrushing on their photos that girls think they have to look like those cover models.  Well guess what?  Even those cover models don't have bodies like that.  There's so much airbrushing and touch ups.

I really respect Pink for the fact that she doesn't conform to be what society wants her to be.

It is postmodernism as it works out in the daily world.

While I think that the issue is slightly more complicated than that, I agree with your premise very much. Postmodern thought is very much responsible for the "stupid girls" that we see both on television and in real life.

I think the reason everyone wants to look that way might have somthing to look with the symbols of adulthood children have growing up. I mean one of the first things girls have shoved in their faces when their children is barbie, when you look like that you get everything.

There really is so much airbrushing, it's ridiculous. And even on tv, the amount of makeup people put in is crazy and they look so different without it. Why is is that everyone strives to be "beautiful" and "thin" and look like the SI models. Those people don't eat like normal people and chances are they dont really look like they do in the magazine. It's all a matter of society conforming to what is in style. At one point in time it was beautiful to be fat because it was difficult to be that way becasue not everyoen could afford food.

The Video is HILARIOUS! I love it. It is pretty sad though that women have let themselves become reduced to sex objects and housewives. How could women vote for leaders that believe a woman must be pregnant at home with the kids. That is what I don't understand. Where are the Women who make up the majority of the votes? Why aren't the women organizing to take the reins of the country from these @sshole men that have been f#&%ing things up for the past 25 years? Can't women do it? Or do they really want to be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen while the husband takes younger hotter wife number two during his mid life crisis?

I agree with you, but I think that if a woman has the chance to be a stay-at-home mom, they should take advantage of that because it's a blessing. So many moms work because they have to provide for their families, but they would so much rather stay home and raise their kids instead of shoving them off into day care.

Stay at home confined to the house, and toil relentlessly day in and day out fighting back the evils of Dust, Laundry and slave over the stove? Never to be able to contribute to society other than through her a couple childeren and always defining oneself by the position of Wife and servant to the Husband? The Husband gets to be a leader and an achiever as well as father and lastly husband. The Housewife is first a Wife, and then nothing without the man. It sounds like hell.

I know my mom would give any thing to be a stay-at-home mom again. I hate seeing all of these working moms sticking their kids in daycare all day. These kids need nurtuing parents - not just on the weekends. Being a housewife doesn't mean you can't contribute to society. Do you think it really means you stay in your own home every minute? You can still go to activities you enjoy, meetings, march in protests, etc. And it doesn't necessarily mean the husband is the leader either. That depends on the family.

I once thought exactly the same thing. But I wonder if you've ever seen the movie "Mona Lisa Smile"... I refer to the plot line where Julia Roberts' character gives Julia Stiles' character a chance to apply to Yale law school. Stiles' character only planned on getting married after graduating Wellesley (she'd been studying pre-law, basically, and was, according to Roberts, going to throw it all away just to become what society wanted her to be).

"Do you think I'll wake up one morning and regret not being a lawyer?"
"Yes, I'm afraid that you will." ...
"This must seem terrible to you."
"I didn't say that."
"Sure you did. You always do. You stand in class and tell us to look beyond the image, but you don't. To you a housewife is someone who sold her soul for a center hall colonial. She has no depth, no intellect, no interests. You're the one who said I could do anything I wanted. This is what I want. " (source: imdb.com)

Remember: it's all about choice. You choose not to be stay at home, they choose to. That's what America is about, in a broader sense: being able, being free, to make whatever choice you want.

I agree with you 100 percent on that. I believe that Pink is trying to send the message that no one especially girls should be influenced by the media. They should be happy with who they are and be themselves.

I agree. No one should be influenced by the media. Pink's music video was funny, but let those celebrities do what they want.

Stupid girls....

The best part of the song is the line "I dont want to be a stupid girl".

Non conforming has been Pink's game the past few years, and frankly it helps one's image to not be associated with people like that. But we can only admit that Lindsay Lohan and the stupid girls of our society are quite attractive ( i dont like J.S. ), and trust me, they are better role models that fat plus sized women with pimples and all. I think we can all agree to that.

Now talking about women: From my mom, I have learned that she would rather raise us, meaning my sister and I, than working full time. But she also believes that she needs to get out of the house, meet people and be away from us for a few hours a week, hence why she worked part time at Macy's. But I do agree with your idealogy mainly because if a mother is at home, she cares for her kids and disciplines them and helps them with problems. If they are stuffed in daycares, none of that happens, and the impending relationship they develop with their mothers in the future is bad.

Okay truthinlogic is taking it a bit far. My mom stayed at home while my sisters and I were and loved every minute of it- I would hope she wouldn't find it "hell". If I have the financial means to do so I probably will do the same, even though I plan on being the money maker...

Haha.. I love Pink!

I am very disappointed by the popularity of the women in our society that act like "stupid" girls. These women should be trying to be positive role models for teenagers today, but instead of acting like the bright, intellient, and beautiful women that they are, the dumb themselves down to try to be attractive to guys. Girls, you can be smart and gorgeous without acting like a "stupid" girl! And guys will still like you!

you know i couldnt agree with you more, about the video, and the funny thing is, now even our government is trying to get us to look up to those girls from hollywood, and they are trying to take away our individualism.
*Shorty*

Odd. I just wrote something about the exact same thing.

I don't really think the video is funny, nor do I respect Pink.

I loved Pink's video as well and hope that it has had an impact on the female celebrities in Hollywood, as well as the adolescent girls who obsess more over their hair and clothes than about more important and unsuperficial things. I commend Pink for daring to be different and making known the flaws of girls and women in society today.

Dude. She decided to call herself "Pink."

The fact that she named herself "Pink" has nothing to do how girls in society act, nor does it have anything to do with the types of characters she portrayed in her video. Until you can submit superficial reasons why she decided to call herself "Pink", we can continue to praise the girl for daring to be different, like I said before in my previous comment.

I truly hope you were saying that tongue-in-cheek.

That does sound funny (I've never seen it, I have a boycot on MTV because of is lack of MUSIC) but she's not exactly a brainiac herself. I remember the last time I saw any glimps of her was on some award show and she was drunk stumbling on stage. Thats ok when you are a REAL rock star but not if you are a pop star with a young fan base.

the hypersexualization of Americain women goes much deeper than the media. The media certainly reinforces it, but pressures exisit in our everyday lives. the idea that women can only be beautiful if they fit the media ideal, only effects young girls because they see the response that they can get from the men around them when they play into those stereotypes. what boys like becomes much more important than what they want, or need, or what makes them happy. it's good that pink is speaking out against it but they are many other women who are also working to end sexism. I recomend the book Heterosexuality: a psychology and feminist reader.

Yes, image problems tend to develop from socity and the meda, but severe anorexia or bulemia is a real neurological disorder which decieves ones body image, ot compusively ejects food from oneself.

That video is stupid and so is pink. Those girls may be all over the media for being sexy, anerexic, whatever, but Pink is just the same as them. She is an icon as well, she just makes her money from being doing the opposite of those other girls.

I think the video is al ittle lame, to tell you the truth. I'm sure pink does dumb shit too, and i'm sure she likes to feel attractive sometimes. Everyone's guilty of it.

As for stay at home/work mom...my mom was a working mom, but she eased into it. She went on maturnity leave to have me, then went back to work 3 days a week...my dad was making enough money to hold it all down. Then when I was about 4 or so, she went back 5 days a week, and my grandmother moved in with us. I also had an older sister who is 8 yrs older, and my dad was home a lot because his office was in our house. Having a job gave my mom a real sense of independence and self worth, and she still had time to raise and influence us. She taught me never to depend on a man for anything because you never know when the rug will be pulled out from under you. My dad died four years ago, and had my mom not had her own job we would have lost everything. Having her own job also was a means of coping with my dad's death. It gave her a regimine, it helped her move on and take her mind off of it, it gave her a purpose and an excuse to leave the house. She says her job helped save her.

Personally, I think it's everyone's own choice to be stay at home or working, but I plan on working. I think being a mom is indeed a full time job and being a housewife/home mom is a very tough job. But I think there is more to a woman than her motherly skills and I intend on being an example of self worth and independence for my own children.

The damn media influences girls to be someone else. Be yourself! Jeez... At least Pink shows the issues in a way that younger generation might grasp.

I think that the song is about poking fun at the media and celebrities.

I totally love that song and musci video. That has to be one of my favorite songs becaues it is so true!!!!!! All of her songs have a point to them and some, I can even relate to!
