Suspensions in the Olympic Games

All I've really heard about the Olympics lately is the scandal surrounding Bode Miller and his drunken skiig.  And now this shows up in the New York Times:

Five (updated after the story was published) cross-country skiiers and a skeleton barred the day before the games begin.  Even more than the media focusing on the wrong things is the unsettling truth that these athletes will do anything to win gold.  The Olympics used to be an event where countries bonded and competed in fraternity.  Now, not saying these tests were from blood doping, but the possibility is therre.  The Olympics need to go back to what they were.  In this respect, we can learn from the Koreas.  They entered the stadium together, and soon may compete together.  Bring the Games back into the spirit of fraternity.

Yeah, but look at the heinous acts of the skeleton athlete - he was using a hair-restoration medicine. Not exactly cheating, not exactly breaking the 'fraternity' - just a man who was embarrassed to lose his hair.

I understand that in the skeleton guy's incident, but the Games should focus more the achievements rather than the scandals.

The media thrives on conflict. They'd rather have a negative story than a positive one 90% of the time because that draws in more viewers.

^^^^^ Agreed

Its a sad comment on people when they are drawn more to negative things. People should learn the true nature of the Games. I remember as a child when they were the greatest time of the year. Competition is why the olympics exist, and people should renew that as why they watch.
