I don't know how obvious this has been to other people but I have noticed that when a person makes a derogatory or racist remark they try to make it right. What I mean by that is that they try to say "oh it's ok, I'm not racist because I have asian/hispanic/african-american friends." It looks really stupid and I have met many people who use this as a legitimate excuse to crack a few racist jokes.
One relevant incident is the recent Imus racist remarks. This man made some "nappy headed" comments towards a mostly african american female basketball team. He later tried to say he was not racist at all because he runs a ranch for children with blood problems and he has helped black children. So what? That doesn't mean you aren't racist. If you did not want people to say you were racist you should not have made those comments in the first place.
It disgusts me that people try to say "yea I know some black people so I can crack a few jokes about them." Stop. If this man truly had any respect for these so-called "friends" he would have enough respect not to make derogatory/racist remarks about his "friends."

I totally agree. White people making excuses, or rich old white guys trying to "right slavery" by offering scholarships, etc. for African Americans is POINTLESS. The racism of yourself or others is unexcusable, so either admit you are racist, or rise above all of those racially charged jokes and set a good example for your fellow community members.

I'm not saying white people are the only racists. This is on a general scale, meaning all types of racists: asian, hispanic, latin, caucasian, african-american. Anyone can be racist no matter their skin color.

I understand that not only white people can be racist, believe me I've had people of many different races stereotype me because I'm a little suburban white girl. But don't we see it most often in white people? I sure do. Especially the scholarship thing. Okay, we know slavery was wrong, and if we knew then what we know today, we probably wouldn't have done it, but it was a long time ago, let's get over it and chalk it up as a lesson learned, please.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to say. It's sort of contradicting itself.

I'm saying that I know not only white people are racist, but your post was about trying to "right" racism. And through my experience, white people are the ones that mostly try to do this, especially in the case of trying to "compensate" for slavery by offering money and special privaleges to African Americans.
