Four Years ago today, George W. Bush gave a "Mission Accomplished" speech; declaring that major combat operations were at an end in Iraq.
Today, he vetoed the bill placed before him that outlined a plan for withdrawing the troops from Iraq.
"In the end, neither side was willing to give an inch — or give up the last word.
In the span of about two hours Tuesday, President Bush received, vetoed and publicly denounced legislation ordering troops to begin coming home from Iraq. Democrats, who had staged a dramatic signing ceremony, headed back to the television cameras to chide Bush for rejecting it."
Trying to flex your political biceps is not the way to get things done, I thought people learned this? You don't give ultimatum if you want someone to make a specific choice. Why should this have been any different?
According to the article, Pelosi claims that Bush wants a "blank check" and she is unwilling to give it to him. And Bush believes cutting all funding to the troops will leave them feeling abandoned.
Supposedly, now they will be working together to draft a new bill.
I understand the want of an outlined plan, I do. And I understand that people don't want to be there; But I'm with Bush on this one. I don't think outlining an exact date for withdrawal for all the world to see is wise to do.

theres has been nothing "wise" about the way this war has been handled yet, Why start now?
I'm still unclear why we went into Iraq. I would be able to understand if we tried for DRNK (as much as that would have fucked over the Chinese) because we knew that they had a weapons program that was actively under development, but at the time, disfunctional. Now, DRNK, and Iran both have weapons and the one country that we invaded because of weapons, didn't have them in the first place.
I miss Hans Blix.
