My jaw dropped.
Families- unarmed men, women and children- were being beaten with truncheons and pelted with rubber bullets. Tear gas was implemented to disband the peaceful protesters. Journalists were thrown to the ground, one of their cameras-smashed. No evidence? A chopper buzzed overhead, broadcasting unintelligible directions to the fleeing demonstrators.
Iran? China? El Salvador?
No. This is America. Our America. When I first saw images of this on youtube and indymedia, I was outraged. In the face of a woman being clubbed, I saw my mother. The young boy fleeing from the bullets was my brother. It enraged me to see my brothers and sisters bruised and battered on the computer screen. How could this be happening?
Those people were raising their voices to protest what they see as an injustice. The right to organize is constitutional. This is everyone's right, not just one reserved for the citizens of America.
What's worse is that conservative bloggers spit in our wounds. Wetbacks. They deserve this. I'm right and you're wrong.
This makes me angry. Not Ann Coulter or Bill O'Reilly angry. This is deeper and harsher than anything I've felt in a while. My people are beaten and terrified, and all they have to say about this is "serves 'em right"? We should all be outraged. Anyone who stands for liberty. Anyone who believes in justice- anyone who abhors the abuse of the defenseless should be outraged.
Or am I just making a big deal out of this?

I would like to point out that when you refuse to recognize the laws that give you rights you thus forfeit them. That is the way it works. With rights comes responsibility. In this case that responsibility is to come here legally. Illegal aliens have willingly forfeited their rights.
Personally I think we should follow Mexico's example. Have you ever seen Mexican immigration law? You can be a legal immigrant and be deported without due process. You cannot own property. Etc. For them to call our laws unjust is blatant hypocrisy which no one can deny.
We are tired of the Conquistadors raping our nation because we have lighter skin.
Viva la deportation
This post was about the actions of the police, not the actual topic of immigration. Try reading before posting your irrelevant comments.
Denken. Nicht lesen.
OWN.
Raping our nation? By working themselves to the bone to build our roads and buildings? Gimme a break.
And it's not -them-. It's us. There are countless white American citizens that consider those laws unjust- and American citizens of every race, color and creed. Most illegal immigrants don't actually speak up. It's their allies, the people who seem them as real human beings that speak up for them. They have been disenfranchised by a system that destroys families.
Anyway, none of that justifies the police brutality that the May Day rally-goers suffered. There is no proof that any of them were undocumented workers- American citizens and residents have the right to speak out about any issue they please without fear of being beaten and gassed by the cops.
