Hello all,
I guess I better get this first post overwith. Hiiiiiiii. My name is Tara Dawn. I'm a city girl currently living in Pittsburgh, PA. I'm a college student studying psychology and biology. I hope one day to perhaps become a psychiatrist. A few things to add to that: I think America in general is way over-medicated. Please do not mistake me for a dollar-mongering fiend who doesn't care about helping others. I heavily support psychotherapy in place of meds when possible. That being said...
I am not a democrat. I am not a republican. I consider myself an independent, though most of my policies swing more to the left and I would bludgeon Dubya in a heartbeat if given the chance... I am a bisexual, agnostic female. If you couldn't tell, I like to live my life without the restriction of party or category affiliation. I am not a bleeding heart feminist, though I do very much feel that our wages should be separate and we shouldn't get special breaks at the bar. I'd love to eventually tear down gender barriers... my daughters, when I have them, will play with trucks, and if my son wants to play with barbies, I say let him go for it (my brother did it... haha).
I dont think enough young people vote. I think the educational system of America is slowly going down the crapper. I think too many college kids spend too much time watching the OC and not enough time reading the news. I think it's unfair that people ignore the problems of the world just because it doesn't affect them directly. I dont think we as Americans handle our money properly. I think capitalism in general kind of sucks at times. I am pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, pro-stem cell research, pro-diversity, and pro-tolerance. I think it sucks that we kill the environment around us for our own consumer gains. I've signed the ONE declaration to fight against world poverty. I very much support PETA, but I am not a vegetarian.
I have great ideas that I would love to be heard, and I'm working to get others involved with American and world politics. It's our generation, afterall, that will be running this country in a few short years. We need to speak up!
Aside from all that, my interests include playing guitar and singing, dancing, reading, blogging(way too much), cooking, and eating (way too much. ha.) I'm really easygoing and I enjoy drinking heavily every now and again (I am in college...), I love meeting new people and stimulating conversation! Anyone feel free to shoot me a message! I'm glad to be in the community!
