Education in Florida- America

I don't believe that children in the state of Florida are getting the education they deserve. We live in America, we're supposed to be the greatest country in the world, but how can we be the greatest when we're the dumbest?

It's absolutely ridiculous that teachers are thrown into classrooms without materials (i.e. books) necessary to teach their students what they need to be learning. Also, despite the fact of our Class Size Amendment, schools are still over crowded and no one is doing anything about it. We continue to build homes, but not schools for the children that will be moving into those homes. These over-crowded schools get away with larger class sizes by paying a fine. Okay so they paid their debt, but what about the debt owed to the student who gets hurt because there are too many students in the hall to have safe transitions or the students who aren’t getting the education they deserve because the teacher can’t handle a larger class? As for the safety of the students, there are routine fire drills, but it seems like students hear them so much, they become immune to them. What if one day there's actually a fire? One of two things will happen: 1) kids will blow it off without concern because a fire alarm has become so routine and 2) there will be too many students to get organized and evacuate the buildings safely.

Education is the foundation for the rest of our lives; education is life. We need to be informed. We need an education and a good one in order to become active, working members of society. I believe that because we live in America and we are spoiled, we take education for granted much too often. You have a right to an education, but education is also a privilege. In this country, it is illegal for someone to keep you from getting an education, but we are privileged for having these rights. In Europe, education is valued, treasured. Europeans and other countries (Japan) are far more advanced than we are in America. A student taking HONORS/AP courses in an American school usually is not able to pass the same test that an AVERAGE student in Europe passes. Why is this? Education is not valued in America; we’re more concerned with being comfortable and entertained and expect everything to be handed to us.

Our government says they are concerned about education, but I'm sure it's not one of their top priorities. Actually, I know this for a fact; if it were true, they would not have taken away 30% of education funds in the past year.

I know our government has some pretty big fish to fry at the moment, but couldn't they take a second and focus on the children who will be taking their jobs in the future, making sure these children will be qualified to run a country.
