When I was little I was obsessed with the TV show "I Love Lucy." It's a 1950's show about a couple growing up in New York; the wife causes many hilarious situations. Along with these other shows, my parents had grown up watching "The Donna Reed Show" or "Leave It To Beaver." It's amazing how these women put on pearls and a pretty house dresses to vaccuum the house. Television since then has obviously changed; we now allow for more violence and inappropriate content.
Back in the days of "I Love Lucy," the word 'pregnant' was not allowed on TV. (I know-it sounds rediculous.) They had to say 'expecting' or a simular word to get the point across. Now, we allow on MTV and pretty much any other cable show, four letter words to maybe describe the "tragedy" of someone being pregnant. As a society, we have made small allowances at a time to come to this.
There are many shows on TV that try to promote a positive outlook, without violence or sex being flashed on the screen, but there are many that support issues like these. The problem with these positive programs is that some tend to be boring. Kids absorb a lot of information when they're younger. A few minutes of something on TV can influence them. Kid programs have changed from teaching the alphabet to grown up situations.
Don't get me wrong-I do not want to go back to the 1950's life style. I do enjoy my dramatic TV shows. But we are constantly shown a lack of respect for the human person through violence and promiscuity and each day it gets worse.
It's Come To This

...Tv didn't exist in the 20's. It was started in the late 40's, then became more common in the 50's and 60's.

typo...sorry thanks for telling me.
You're welcome.

I agree with this. I babysit a four-year-old boy who has seen the Star Wars movies enough times to have them memorized. I personally think that kids should be a little older before being allowed to see such violent movies. When I am babysitting him, he frequently picks up his plastic light saber and says "I'm Luke and you're Darth and this is my ship" and proceeds to "kill" me with the light sabers. Save this epic trilogy for later.
