I'm currently working at a hair salon and would just like to point out a few things. Nothing is more frustrating when we work really hard and don't get any appreciation. Many of the walk in clients don't even give us so much as a thank you while others give us some of the most generous tips. I know many people don't know they should tip their hairstylist, but it's nice to at least get a thank you.
There are also those people who, no matter how hard you try, you can't please. I've spent an hour with a client cutting his hair before. He would pick out a single strand of hair and ask me to cut just it. And then continue doing that all the way around his head. I understand that people like their hair to be even and look nice, but when people get to picking out individual strands to cut (making everything uneven) is just a bit extreme. But I obliged and at the end the guy walked out without saying thank you.
Anyways, pardon my ranting... but I just feel like so many people just forget the simple things. Like saying please and thank you. They go a long way and take less than a second to say.

It is always nice to feel appreciated. Well, let me just say that I am thankful for anyone who knows how to cut hair; my hair would look terrible if it wasn't for people just like you! Thanks so much!

Some people expect to be waited on by those that they deem lower than them. I always love when someone appreciates me going out of my way for them, because by no means is my paycheck any higher for me bending over backwards for you. I think some people think that just because they have a lot of money and a good job, they are better than those of us just starting out. We'll see about that though.

that is a good point. and not just in hairstyling, ( i am nice to my hair people, which happen to be japanese and i love them!!!) but in life in general. we need to be grateful for everything that people do for us.
