"success"

So... thinking about life and stuff... (okay, so who doesn't think about that?). And my mind's traveling to college, since it's over a year away...

and, on myspace, I just did a survey thingy... and it asked if I thought I lived a successful life....

uhmm, hello? When you're 17... you really can't live much of a life yet. I mean, yeah, success is measured by the grades in school, or the friends, or the awards, spelling bees, jobs, etc... but is that really success?

I've always thought of success as making a difference for someone else... and how does a B in Calc make a difference?

Why is it that America's mindset is so off? Why is it that we are so self-centered... and our ideal of success is how much money we make in a year? Or how many hours we spent at work?

My parents, almost every day, complain because I don't "work enough". They talk about how they have about 30 hours... during the school year. They never had the stuff we had, like SATs, APs, and really tough classes.... so my parents don't think I'm "successful" because I don't work as much as they did? That is so messed up.

How can one really tell if they lived a successful life??? What guidelines are there? there aren't. I mean, look around. No one really gives two cents about starving people in Cambodia or Haiti. They don't care about how terrible others are getting treated... but there are some people who go over & help out the helpless.

And they get shot down for it. is that right? No...

Aren't those who help successful??? yes.

They might not have a 20-bedroom house... they may not have any house at all... but their still successful.

Is our society really that dumb-minded that they don't understand what success is?!

Success is what we make it. I would hope everyone around the world would share your idea of success.

Don't lose the passion... and don't let cynics and self-centered people get to you and make you lose touch on what is imporant.
