I was emailed this thing and I found this intriguing and wanted to share it. I believe in God but not that prayer should be in the schools.

One day a 6 year old girl was sitting in a
classroom. The teacher was going to explain
evolution to the children. The teacher asked
a little boy: Tommy do you see the tree
outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

TEACHER: Tommy, do you see the grass
outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

TEACHER: Go outside and look up and see
if you can see the sky.

TOMMY: Okay. (He returned a few minutes
later) Yes, I saw the sky.

TEACHER: Did you see God up there?

TOMMY: No.

TEACHER: That's my point. We can't see
God because he isn't there. Possibly he just &nb sp;
doesn't exist.

A little girl spoke up and wanted to ask the
boy some questions.

The teacher agreed and the little girl asked
the boy: Tommy, do you see the tree outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

LITTLE GIRL: Tommy do you see the grass
outside?

TOMMY: Yessssss!

LITTLE GIRL: Did you see the sky?

TOMMY: Yessssss!

LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, do you see the teacher?

TOMMY: Yes

LITTLE GIRL: Do you see her brain?

TOMMY: No

LITTLE GIRL: Then according to what we
were taught today in school, she possibly
may not even have one!

...but it does in fact illustrate one of classic flaws in reason to which certain overly religious folks fall for when they try to defend their religious beliefs against science.

The simple difference between the teacher's questions and the girl's is that ultimately, a close examination of the teacher could in fact prove that she has a brain. We might have to wait until she dies and cut open her skull, but we can in fact objectively prove that the teacher's brain exists.

Anecdotes like this are designed to create an intellectual equivalency which does not in fact exist, and in doing so to undermine the rational argument though the use of an essentially absurd metaphor. The true humor in this story, however, is that it also illustrates (probably unintentionally) that it requires a child-like intellect to accept the basic arguments of religion.

What did that lecture have to do with evolution at all? Evolution doesn't automatically claim that there is no God. Darwin himself never made any claims to believe that there was no God.

I was going to make a joke out of all of the families who prayed to God to help their loved ones heal when I worked in the ICU, and then their family members died anyway, but I'm just not cruel enough.

That's exactly something I would say. Wow, how I'd love to meet that girl but it might of been a lot more funnier if she'd curse the same way the teacher did. Most likely, someone older wrote this rather than the action actually happened, some smartass, yeah... I wish I'd gone and write it before them...

That's a funny joke.
I think everyone should just believe what they want to believe and let everyone else do the same.

it's funny to think of what the teacher's face might have looked like when the little girl said that! Tee Hee

I think teachers (especially when they are teaching people that young) have no business delivering biased information, and I like the girl's attitude, but it's very rude and shows the same attitude as the teacher. They both need to drop it.
Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see.

the teachers commentary was unnecessary. when we explain evolution we should explain evolution.

there is no mention of religion, so don't mention it.
