Okay, so… where to start. This is my life in school, take out of it what you can.

I was in Elementary School and I had to shave my head (Lice uhhh). I wore these huge glasses and used to at the time have a Fro’ of curly hair. I looked like the typical geek. Well um… I had absolutely no friends, not a single one. My Elementary School adventures were never adventurous. I once joined the school hall patrol and I got picked on so much I quit. The only thing I really stuck with was choir. I could sing a little bit.
That was it for that school, I could have said more but it was just wretched and horribly err… singular.

I went to Middle school and for two years it was no better. Now this is when it got horrible. I was in the sixth grade and I still had no friends, is still looked exactly the same. Well there were these group of kids that made fun of me so much especially this one. We will call him “Dean”. Dean was not much bigger than me but he was the popular one. He made me hate myself (it was not hard). I would say a stupid thing (I still cringe when I think of how dumb I was) and I would get barraded with laughter for a week. (the ones who still know me still call me D-Rod, but I will never get into that). I had no hobbies, no friends, my family was constantly fighting, no pets (I found out later those help a lot), and no life. It was just me and my bubble. If there was ever a time to end it that was it. I remember one time my dad came to the school and caused a huge deal. And my teachers kept asking me which ones did it and I couldn’t tell. I can never tell. It was just to hard to be that kid, the “tattle tale”.

I became friends with the Goth kids, and the gays, I found out that societies outcasts are by far the most deserving of popularity. My parents still hate those people but you know what… they are the only ones I could talk to at all. My Dad helped a little (I still don’t forgive him to this day for other things but I do appreciate what he did at the time) He went and got me contacts (still wear to this day), a hair cut (thank god), and brand new clothes. I set out to change some aspects of my life. I got my first girlfriend in the 8th grade.

Then came high school and by far the highlight of my life. I am now a senior now graduating in 09’. Freshman year I joined plays and started listening to rock music (this helped me beyond everything.) I made a bunch of new friends (my old ones went to another school, though we talked until the end of Freshman year, at the moment we are out of contact.) I still did so many dumb things like be Hermey in the school play and let girls put on my makeup (my dad turned of the Video Camera while he was filming and started to curse when he saw this). I am not gay, not goth, just me. I made a lot of awesome friends that still make me smile.

Here is my advice if your going to be a teacher. I have this teacher now her name is Miss. A and she is by far the coolest lady I have ever met. When you are a teacher you have to talk to kids about things that no other adult would. Take their advice about movies and music and give them honest opinions. Become approachable, give them some wiggle room and let them think they have more control than they do. You have to bring out the good in them and not force it. Never yell, Never loose you cool, just tell them that you thought they were more mature than this. If they don’t turn in homework give them a chance listen to them it will all work out. And please, please, please make sure you really want to be a teacher.

OHHH and if you’re an English Teacher MAKE SURE YOU READ THEIR PAPER AND HELP THEM WITH ERRORS AND GRAMMAR. At the moment I have a teacher who won’t read my papers, she won’t even give me advice. All she tells me is that “your smart enough, I’m sure you have the hang of it.” This pisses me off because my grammar still SUCKS.

If you have any questions just ask
And if anything seems confusing I will clarify just tell me
I had to do this kind of quick so it is not as nice as I want it to be.

I have also noticed that high school teachers seem to be less concerned with fixing grammatical errors. I wonder if this is because they simply have too many kids in their classes to have the time to get through each paper or if they have just developed a large sense of apathy.

but other than thar, i don't think it is all teachers just that one because she is lazy... A really cool lady but very lazy.

IU wonder if they just don't remember. My stepdaughter is always coming home with notes that feature poor grammar and spelling. For example, she used the word "hardwear" to refer to computer discs. I would have considered hardware to be clothes that could use a dose of fabric softener.

The teacher made that mistake? I would have taken the note straight to the principle!

There were mistakes similar to that in every newsletter. I have a hard time accepting the fact that the same lady was administering spelling tests.

that was a great blog. it really made me think back to school. i knew this kid named zeke. Sounds exactly like you. curly blonde afro, glasses. he was so awesome to hang around (i knew him in like 1st grade), but a lot of kids wouldn't even give him the time of day because he looked different.

Thanks for telling your story. What WOULD have helped with the bullying when you were younger? I know it's embarrassing when adults step in to stop it, but how else will it end?

I'm not sure. though it helped it took alot for me to face everyone again. (embarassing). In my opinion you have to take care of the Victim not punish the Bully (though jerks do have to get what is coming to them).

that's what anti-bullying programs in the elementary schools try to do now. They try to give everyone the skills to work it out and to stop it before it gets to the point where it can be called bullying and hopefully, before adults have to come in and clean up the mess. There's a lot of discussion of everyone's roles in a bullying situation, especially bystanders. The kids who stand around and let it happen without speaking up on behalf of the victim are just as guilty as the bully.
