ATTN Online Students

There is a most ridiculous problem that I keep seeing over and over again amongst online students. I am sure it might not be an issue with ProU bloggers but this is getting radically annoying.

First of all, as an online student posting stuff -such as questions- to discussion boards in your class, you should be aware that every single last one of your classmates will read it and know the truth of your ignorance unless of course they are afflicted with the same degree of brainlessness.

I guess this is true for all open discussion areas. I am sure that (even among ProU were the average population is a little more…literate) that we have seen those sentences that we have to scroll down to finish and that contain no capitalization, but this problem is far worse than lack of education. That is something we cannot blame the student for.

What I am talking about here are people who are confused and post it having not read the syllabus or their email. Let me explain the latest situation:

The main page of this web class has links to the syllabus, the course schedule, the assignment page, the exam page and to a communication page that links to the mail and discussion boards. The teacher posts that Exam 1 is postponed due to problems getting the text book and that we will have discussion groups assigned Monday and that the rules & topics will be posted at that time. Moron 1 posts a day later if we are to just read all the chapters and take the final. This causes Genius 1 to ask if Moron 1 had gotten a syllabus, knowing it was posted already. Genius 2 (myself and I use the term genius loosely) mentions that the class has had a slow start due to book problems (referencing teacher memo) and that the class should get fun come this next week. Moron 2 comes on saying that the syllabus was received and that it said nothing about any exams or anything. Genius 1 goes on to point out the memo mentioned above and copy the section of the syllabus that plainly states the grading and exams. I love Genius 1 and am glad that this person posted first rather than me because I am sure I would have said something inappropriate.

I find situations like this extremely annoying and it happens often. Like last semester I almost threw my computer out the window (not really) because I had a group project and I had to refer my members back to the directions for every portion we had to complete, not always only once either. It took us over 200 posts to even get started because the group members could not read.

So, people please read the entire syllabus and course schedule before you go about showing your inabilities to the class, wasting all of our time.
I have no idea how to handle situations like this but for the sake of all insanity please PLEASE do not join an online class if you cannot learn by reading alone or plan on not studying. Oh and remember what you ‘say’ in discussion class can be seen by all over and over and over and there is no hiding after you stuck your foot in your mouth.

PS anyone know how to nicely tell a person in an online class how to wake up and pay attention…your computer is not going to wake up and tell you the secrets to a class and that they need to read before speaking?????
Thanks for your input

LOL! Coincidentally, I just recently dropped a class and opted for an online course because I was referred to the "rapid review course", proceeded by taking my IC3 certification test [not that any of that may make sense to you] after taking a placement test. The class doesn't start until tomorrow and it'll be my first online class but... I certainly agree. I hate it, even in class, when the professor [or teacher, which I have more experience with being fresh out of high school] will say something and a student will raise their hand or just outright ask about the SAME EXACT thing the professor/teacher JUST announced/said to the class. I can understand and have patience with slightly slower students and people who actually are not comprehending as quickly I am, but... as far as those who stare into space for 10 or 20 minutes then ask what we're doing--they annoy me. A lot.

Exactly ,but how they manage to do that when the subject matter is still unmoving before their eyes waiting for their mental return is beyond me
