The United States economy is in a rut. With gas prices expected to rise in early April or May to the increase in home foreclosures, it is impossible to say that the we are doing well. Some experts say that gas prices could go up to around $4 in several areas. In other woods, the U.S.' economic down-fall effects the other economies of other nations. I always hear on the news that Asian and European markets are down (mostly because of the U.S).
Some people say there won't even be a "classes" (i.e. middle class). You'll either be poor or wealthy. But nonetheless, everyone will feel the painful effect of this recession. The government has never said (or probably will never say) that we are in a recession. Our problems arise from the War in Iraq. It has a close relevance to the Vietnam War, where around 56,000 people died...almost in vain. The U.S. never brought "democracy" to the vulnerable Vietnam during the 1960's and 1970's. But, enough about that...most people know who to blame...*cough cough*
It's interesting how President Bush got re-elected. A majority of Americans don't even approve of the War in Iraq anymore and want a withdrawal or an end to the war. When you go to CNN and partake in their polls, it isn't a surprise that many share your same opinion. For example, today's question is "Are you driving less because of high gas prices?" Currently, the results stand as 70% say "Yes" while 30% say "No." Many Americans are in a rut. There are some people who just cannot afford the "essentials" in life that cost a large sum of money. For example, a college education (for future children or yourself) , gas, food, bills, etc. I have heard at that parents of children who are going/in college are afraid that they are digging into their own retirement fund, just to pay for their college education.
Fact: (something to think about) The government is planning to send out checks (tax rebates) to thousands of Americans in order to stimulate the economy. ...Now, just because the government does not forwardly say "We are in a recession," why in the world would they be willing to give money to numerous Americans!?!? Free money?!? I mean, come on, if that were not a true sign of a recession, you have to be an idiot not to believe that we are not in a recession
Everything is just going up...but with a (slightly) bright side, some prices will go down, like housing and automobile prices. Maybe now is the time to buy your nice home in suburbia or your dream/luxury car! Haha. :-P

yes I definitely agree. My grandparents and I were just having this conversation the other day. They wouldn't listen to me when I told them we are definitely in a recession. They're blinded by the government. But it seems to be that way with their generation. I think the government spends our money on a lot of useless things. I feel we should decide where we want to put our money as far as taxes go. Rediculous! I'm very afraid right now. I'm in college, I live about an hour away from it and have to drive there everyday. I'm a full time student and cant get housing (move on campus) because they don't have that where I go. Private loans where I'm at don't pay for those kinds of things. Gas is just killing me, I have no extra money for anything. All my money goes to gas and that is it! Gas isn't the only issue though. There is just way too many things. I'm thinking of moving to Australia when I'm out of school and have my a career going....I don't think ti highly of our government right now.
that you posted this, because i have been thinking on this subject a lot lately.
like the girl that commented above, i am also having serious considerations of moving to somewhere outside the country (possibly ireland) after college. america's just not the place to be right now.

I've been having thoughts like this as well. It just seems like we're on a downhill slide right now.
I hate the way the government spends our money. If it were up to Americans, I'm sure Bush (as well as all other government officials) would be staying in a Holiday Inn or Motel 6 with double occupancy while on business, and riding in a Ford Taurus (With tinted windows and full security, of course). I don't see why a limo and five-star hotel are necessities of running a country.

Check it out...it's a work in progress.
Its funny because I too was talking about this just a few days ago with my boyfriend. We're a little bit in debt ( which means alot in America), and you have to have money to make money. His dad suggested we move to Canada, schools are free, healthcare is free and i don't know what else they got going, but he talked as if it was the best country in the world. lol Well, without a doubt we are in recession.
