Border Town....

People who live in states that do not fall on the US/Mexican Border see fewer problems with Illegal Immigrants... but living an hour away from the border the problems are recurring parts of your daily life. The security of the border is just not tight enough. I don't necessarily agree with building a huge wall separating the two countries but right now it is much to easy for people to come into America and never be detected. They get jobs from people who pay them under the counter so they never get detected. They're living off our countries resources and not having to pay taxes. Many illegal immigrants just do not want to go through the process to become a citizen, even though it's pretty simple.

Personally, I think our country is a little too lenient when it comes to citizenship.Women who are pregnant, illegally cross the US Border and stay long enough to have their baby which by our country's laws gives the baby automatic citizenship. Which in turn makes it much easier to get citizenship for themselves even thought they came into our country illegally.

In Texas recently, a Mexican Citizen who had been deported because he had raped a 10 year old girl somehow got back across and ended up killing a police officer.

Starting in December Americans are gonna need to have passports to cross over into Mexico in an effort to reduce the number of American teens who cross over to drink. So our country is trying to keep us out of Mexico but isn't putting forth a sufficient amount of effort to tighten border security for people coming into our country.

I understand our country is known as the great melting pot...and I value our diversity and acceptance but when people are coming into our country illegally and breaking laws it's time to take some control.

I agree completely. If you don't mind my asking, what area of the border are you from? I live about an hour and a half from El Paso, TX, which is literally directly across the street from Ciudad Juarez in Mexico. (For those in this area, Juarez is pretty damn notorious for being a terrible place). It gets frustrating seeing people from the east and the midwest and such places talking about illegal immigration - I mean, yes, of course they're affected by it, but a lot of people seem to think it's "not that big of a deal" when they've never even visited a border state. Even people in the northern part of this state (New Mexico) don't feel the same impact as the people living along the border.

Yes, poor Mexicans deserve a chance at a better life, just like everyone else, and I realize that many people who cross the border are just looking for that. However, as I've said before, this is reality and not a perfect world. You can't let people into your country willy nilly, and not every single person coming into this country illegally is an innocent looking for hope and justice and the American dream. There is a big problem with drug smugglers, and - if I might bring another topic in here for a bit - the lack of support for our border patrol is appalling.
