It was just announced, and pointed out to me by poster Texas Heathen, over at Littlegreenfootballs.com, that the Supreme Court has announced that it will hear the Washington DC gun ban case.
As my previous posts have noted, it is illegal to own a firearm in Washington DC. This doesn't stop the criminals, and Washington DC is known as one of the murder and gun crime hotbeds of the country.
DC's law was struck down by a lower court, saying that the ban is a clear violation of the 2nd Amendment, which says that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. I happen to agree, as the current DC law says that the people cannot keep or bear arms.... they infringe on that right.
So, DC appealed to the Supreme Court.
With some luck, and some judges that worry about things like the Constitution and the right of the people rather than that of the government, the lower court's decision will be upheld and the law will be struck down.
If that happens, you will see a quick drop in violent crime, especially if there is a responsible concealed carry program put in place. (as compared to an irrational one like in New York City)
