Super Bowl in London...?

So the NFL's new commish is considering a Super Bowl overseas? I don't know about you but the last time I checked, it was the NATIONAL, not INTERnational, Football League. Not that I have a problem with games being played outside the US. Just let the home fans have a chance to get there.

I mean, a couple of years ago, the 49ers and the Cardinals played in a HUGE crowd in Mexico City. At the same time, they're two nobody teams. On October 28, Miami and the Giants will play in London.

Wait, LONDON London?

Yes, the same place that gave us David Beckham and ex-Bond Roger Moore will play host to the worst team in the NFL and the resurging Giants. But why? Isn't NFL Europe enough?

Apparently not. The call of European fans for NFL football is so great, Roger Goodell has decided to give them what they want: a decent, but probably not all that great, game between actual NFL teams. However, Super Bowl talks, no matter how superficial, shouldn't even be discussed.

Sure they add to your viewership, in turn increasing revenue. And sure you want to keep them loyal. But how can you take the single biggest day of the year in sports and try to make it into a marketing venture across an ocean? Commercials go for top dollar during the Super Bowl, which should make it more than worth it.

But now you'd like to send American fans, the original and most loyal who bleed their team colors, on a trip halfway around the world, not counting the cost of tickets, hotel, food, souvenirs, etc., for the almighty buck?

Why in the hell would you take an American tradition and soil it by taking it out of America??? (This is nothing against Londoners because no matter where it is outside of the US, I'd feel the same.) Every year when football season rolls around, the only thing talked about more than the big injuries or trades, or last night's game is the Super Bowl.

And Super it is.

I know people who, as soon as they find out the date of the Super Bowl, request the day off from work to maximize their enjoyment. Plans are made months in advance, snacks, food, drinks, people, all down to the last details because it is such a deeply ingrained American tradition.

My point is this: the Running of the Bulls is Spain's thing, Oktoberfest is Germany's, so let's keep the Super Bowl at home where it belongs.

In America.

Your blog was awesome, but I can't believe they're really thinking of doing that? Can you find a site?

Ah, the NFL in Lodon, i couldn't believe what I was hearing on the radio this morning... but they've been planning that for a while now.
Europe has football, it is what we call Soccer

Super Bowl in London

The game ended up being decent, not great, with the Giants prevailing 13-10 over the waterlogged Dolphins.
There were multiple turnovers, horrendous passing on Eli's part, and a field torn apart, all of which were due to some degree to the weather. Cleo Lemon had a good game, though his defense couldn't stop the New York ground game.
Surprisingly, each time had only one sack, and neither the Giants' Osi Umenyiora or Michael Strahan nor the Dolphins' Jason Taylor earned it.
