My "very opinionated" view on politics

Tori13's picture

First off I would just like to start by saying that if you take things easily offensive, then you might not want to continue. I'm not meaning to offend anyone or put down anyone's ideas, so don't think that that is my purpose for posting this blog. Now that I've gotten that out of the way, here's what I think:

Let's start with the war in Iraq. Has it become too long? I agree that it has, and yes I'm a Republican. But we have to let Bush do what he thinks is right. It's not like he is trying to put our country into danger on purpose or anything, he has a true reason for being over there and I think we as citizens need to respect and trust in him. If you have a problem, then stop complaining, run for president or move to a different country! I'm sick of hearing your complaining when there is nothing you can do about it until next election. Half of us probably won't end up voting anyway and yet they say that they have right to complain. I don't get it, you don't use your voice until after someone has been elected? I personally have family and friends who have come back saying that no one here knows the real story and we would have to experience life over there to understand why it is necessary. I take their word for it since they are fighting for me. I think that we should all support and listen to these soldiers since they are risking their lives in what they feel is a good cause.

I personally have never been one to think much about politics and I hate it when people just bicker on and on about why they think this should happen, or what the President is doing wrong now. You know what? NO ONE will ever be completely satisfied with who takes office because no one is perfect. We all view the world in our own perspectives and deserve to be respected for what we believe is right. We are the United States of America, not the Divided States of America. There is not one perfect candidate out there, and if something little goes wrong then we all turn our backs on the leader. Yes, Bush has made some wrong choices, but it's not like he knew what the outcome was going to be. At least give him a chance to go through his original plan and try to fix what he had started. Besides, if someone else comes into office right now, worse things would be happening.

Like I said, I hope you respect my opinions just like I respect yours. I don't mean to be offensive to anyone.

I don't find you opinions offensive in any way. I do find your anaylsis naive.

If Bush has a true reason for being in Iraq what is it? I remember being told that Saddam was a major threat to the US and that he had WMDs stored throughout Iraq -- on moving warehouses which explained the difficulty in finding them -- and that for our own protection we needed to secure the region and stop the threat. Not very many other countries backed this idea. In fact the UN refused to back the US because its inspectors found nothing. We've been there for three years and WE'VE FOUND NOTHING!!! I know Saddam was a bad ruler and horrible person for that matter, but what does that have to do with the ongoings of the US or my personal freedoms (beside the govt's new found ability to deny my personal freedoms in the name of fighting terrorism).

Then somehow the reason for invading Iraq became an issue of democracy. How we should spread democracy throughout the world to better the lives of others. Isn't that the mentality that the communists had when they spread their form of government? If the Iraqis wanted liberating, they would have asked for it or even greeted us as such. Neither of these occured.

So what is the true reason we invaded Iraq Mr. Bush?????????
I DO HAVE A PROBLEM AND I WON"T STOP COMPLAINING! And there are things that we as average citizens can do to let our voice be heard. I personally have taken up the challenge of law school in hopes of making any impact I can on the reigning system of misinformation, fear, and mistakes. And as a side note... I voted for Kerry and encouraged all those around me to speak their voice at the polls no matter which way they voted.

Don't think for a second that I don't support our troops. I fully support the brave men and women who fight for my freedoms. But my question is what will a victory in Iraq do for my freedom?? I am not crazy enough to suggest pulling out of the war. That would be even more detremental to the Iraqis than us starting this whole thing by engulfing the nation in a full fledged civil war (which has already begun). But the mismanagement and lack of forethought has gotten us into quite a pickle, only this pickle is full of death, IEDs, sand, oil, and worldwide loss of respect for our country. So what is the "good cause" we are fighting for??

You are right that there is no "perfect candidate" out there (except for maybe Oprah, ha) and everyone makes mistakes. But aren't we supposed to learn from history? The Vietnam war started much the same as Iraq was did -- with misinformation -- I want to say lies but I will give our leaders the benefit of doubt here as I cringe through my teeth. Look it up if you don't believe me -- Vietnam was started over an attack on Americans that NEVER HAPPENED!! Do you remember how Vietnam ended?

As for "something little going wrong"...
I would disagree completely. Starting a war under false pretenses (whether Bush and his followers knew about it or not) is a HUGE wrong. Even before we charged into Iraq, most of the world withdrew their support -- possibly predicting the horrible outcome. Bush has made some VERY WRONG choices and as the President of the United States of America you DON'T get that luxury. You have a cabinet, congress, aides, and whatever other consultants, information, or advice waiting in the wings. He has a multitude of opportunities to make the right decision, the decision that is best for our country and the citizens. All this and he went to war without much support and claimed that the total cost to the American taxpayer would be approximately $1.7 billion. Well his estimates were a little off, considering we have spent over $250 billion and counting to date! That's a HUGE mistake. I find it impossible to be that off when projecting possible costs. Not to mention the reports of inadequate equipment. So where Mr. Bush is my money going?? So far, I have put in over $2,000 of my tax money to support something I disagreed with from the beginning. I have given him a chance to positively influence the outcome of this tragedy to no avail. He has failed me as a president.

As for if someone else was in office right now besides Bush...
it could be worse, it could be better. You cannot disguise your opinion as fact in this instance. There is no proof that a different leader would lead us further astray. I feel that is what our government needs. Not only a new leader but also a different perspective.

I did not read ANY of that, and I really wanted to, because I like you, but it was way too long....

I realize that it was a long blog, I wanted to fully explain myself.

Tori13, I agree with you. We shouldn't leave right now. The war has been long, but we can't up and leave in the middle of it.

YES! FINALLY!! Now, we should just post something about how Clinton screwed Bush and things will be all set.

I'm not sure I understand what you quote about reading in any specific language has to do with anything. Are you implying that without soldiers we would be overrun by the Arabic language? You didn't write it in Arabic, so no one can read it in Arabic... And to be more acurate it is people like the entire Bush family that have direct ties to Arabic nations, not the average liberal.

?confused?

I too get sick of everyone complaing about Bush, but as I said in response to another blogger's post, I cant remember who, this is a PROGRESSIVE website not CONSERVATIVE so you should automatically expect a lot of Bush bashing...not that all progressives are against Bush but most republicans are conservatives. My way of handling the situation is not to read those Bush bashing blogs; the basher usually states his or her intentions in the title and if not there then always in the first paragraph. Likewise, if people did not vote they should not complain, but I dont know who voted and who didnt on this site, but Im sure everyone who could did considering how into politics everyone on this site is. I also agree that everyone needs to leave Bush be because we cant return him to the toy store, and if he was SO bad he would not have been put in office twice so shove it, lol. Okay maybe not shove it, but you get my drift, lol. Actually, I like a good debate, bring it on you bush haters! LOL!
